PARADE AND MEETING WILL CLOSE PREBLE BONUS BILL CAMPAIGN EATON, O., Nov. 3. With a big county mass meeting here Saturday night, Preble County American Legion council and the Woman's auxiliary will bring to a close an aggressive camDaien that is being waged throughout the county in the interest of tht ex-service men's state bonus. . J: The mass meeting here will be preceded by a booster parade that will cover every section of the county. Four bands American Legion, West Alexandria. Lewlsburg, Verona and Gratis will each head a delegation that will tour a given section of the county, after which the caravans and bands will merge in Eaton in a big naradn before the mass meeting. A prominent speaker will address the meeting, but at this time his name has rot been announced. Campaign of the county Is being made under a thorough county organization. The ex-service men's proposed bonus has received the endorsement of Preble county's grange organization and the county Democratic central and executive committees. Grange Endorses Bonus. Preble County Pomona grange, with a membership of more than 2,000, has given its endorsement to the ex-service men's proposed state bonus. The endorsement is embodied in the following resolution: 'Resolved, that we who patriotically supported our soldiers during the war, and as we gave them from our Grange members, who endur ed the hardships and the dangers at the battlefront, we reaffirm our loyalty to them, heartily endorsing the proposed compensation amendment to be voted upon by our citizens at the November election." To Celebrate Day. Probabilities are the various churches in Preble county will devote a part of their services next Sunday to observance of Ft. St. Clair day. The ministers and Sunday school superintendent of the county have received from the Preble County Historical society a letter requesting that some recognition of the day be given Sunday in the churches. A very important battle was fought between Indians and whites on Nov. 6. 17D2. at Ft. St. Clair, which is situated just to the west of Eaton. The county historical society is planning to annually observe the date in an appropriate manner. The first observance will take place next year. The society was formed a few months ago and the time was too short to arrange a fitting celebration of St. Clair day this year. Will Attend Meeting. The Rev. Thomas Murray, Mrs. Eva Srurr, Mrs. Wilkinson, Mrs. Harry Marker, Iva and Wilma Ashworth and Ruth Kisling will represent the local Universalist church in a meeting of the Miami association of Universalist churches, which opens Friday in Cincinnati and will continue over Sunday. Bates, you having been selected according to law. Witness my hand this 16th day of August, 1886. Isaac A. Gorman. Sheriff. W. C. "Present this at front door by 11:30 a. m." CHILD CARE URGED BY T.B. BIRCH AT FIRST BIBLE BODY MEETING "Efficiency in the teaching of the child should be the outstanding interest of every parent today," declared Professor T. Bruce Birch, of Wittenberg college, Springfield, Ohio, in his talk before the first session of che community Bible training Wednesday night, in the high school auditorium. "The child demands the immediate attention of the parent during the early days of its 'bringing-up.' especially so during the 'mating period,' which is between the ages of 14 to 25. A child at the age of 10 or 11 should be watched and corrected, but, in so doing, the parent should use great tact in order to avoid confusing the child." Prof. Birch emphasized the fact that the child in its early periods does most everything to look out for itself, and included in these things which the child does, la small petty thefts, seemingly innocent little lies, and many sucn tnings which seem minor, but, if they are not severed at the start, will lead up to a greater wrong-doing Watch Child Another phase of the rhilrl was brought out by Prof. Birch. "Parents should be especially careful of the1 child during the "mating period," to prevent him from mating too youny. Matches which are made when the child is unreasonably young, often result in disaster." Prof. A. C. Purdy, of Earlhara college, introduced the three subjects, "Country," "Bible," and "People" upon which he will dwell in his talks during the first semester of tho school. Prof. Purdy brought out the main details of the subjects and explained them, and pointed out how he will bring them together and associate them in his lectures which will be given on the following nights. President David M. Edwards, of Earlham college, and Principal, E. C. Cline, of the high school, gave short speeches in regard to the school and its welfare. Harrison Scott, president of the city Sunday school association, made the statement that he expected the enrollment of the school to reach at least 300 students by the next meeting, and that if any one wished to enroll that they might do so at any time. Approximately 250 attended Wednesday night. Words having as many as ten different meanings are common in the Chi nese language. INDIANA COMMERCE BODY ASKS DRASTIC REDUCTION IN ARMS (By Associated Press) INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 3. Drastic reduction of naval and military expenditures as a means of relief from heavy taxation is suggested in a declaration on the armament conference adopted by the executive committee of the Indiana State Chamber of Com merce and sent to President Harding as an expression of support from the organization. The declaration has been forwarded to the president by B. R. Inman, manager of the chamber, with a letter explaining that the Indiana chamber is in full accord with the purpose of the armament conference. The declaration follows: "Business is struggling to adjust it self to radically changed economic conditions. "Heavy taxation for 'unproductive purposes operates to restrict consump tion. The people are spending less because the tax gatherer is taking more. . Excessive taxation exhausts capital, destroys credit and discourages effort. It is therefore evident that the burdens of taxation must be substantially reduced before we can expect a full return of business confidence. Set Free Funds " "A reduction of military and naval expenditures in this country alone, by even half, would set free annually millions of dollars for trade and credit now being expended for unproductive iMniiHinHiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiuimiiimiiiHiuiiinMirau IIIIIIUIIIIIllUlltllllllMfHIIIIIIIlflllltniinilt!!

purposes. Trade and credit would revive with an increasing Bense of security. "The Indiana State Chamber ot Commerce believes that the success of the conference for the limitation of armaments now about to convene, will do much to afford the desired relief, and it urges upon the administration at Washington, to use every effort to bring about a drastic reduction of naval and military expenditures, so that all countries and all classes may be relieved of the staggering burden which threatens some with insolvency and confiscation and all with trade stagnation and unemployment."

HUNTINGTON. W. Va.. Nov. 3. In an appeal for a definite teachers' program to increase the efficiency of thej profession in West Virginia, Robert. Clark of the state education depart-;, nient speaking yesterday at the an-J nual conference of school superintend-! ents and supervisors said that 48 percent of the teachers of West Virginia have no training above the eighth; grade and 68 percent have less than; a high school education. He stated; also that of . 10,000 elementary teach-; ers in the state, only 33 percent were' trained.
