"The Love Pendulum
By MARION RUBINCAM
TRIVIALITIES Chapter 92 So all our differences came to this that Win walked across the room and kissed me.
And In his kiss I forgot everything;
that worried me, and everything that had hurt me in the past. "Win, dear: Win. dear," I heard my
self saying over and over, while Ij
ciung to mm. And he answered simply, "Connie and kissed me again.
Then I nulled away to see him bet-i
ter. "How well you look," I cried.!
"Not so tired. You did look so tired
before. Only you never would admit it, you kept on going and going." "I'm well. I've been working hard."
The talk ended. We stood and looked at each other for awhile. With so many things to say, we could find nothing to talk about for a long time. So he had been working hard! That accounted for the maps, the papers and books about, the inkstands and pencils and other office equipment. Not a word as to how much he had been going out! "You're looking rather well, too," he paid finally. "Not pale as you are in your portrait." He admitted he had seen it! My heart leaped at that. Probably I was looking particularly well at that moment, for my cheeks were flushed from happiness and the excitement of being back, of seeing Win, of his kiss of reconciliation. "Did you like the picture?" I asked, still unable to get away from trivialities In talk. "Yes that is, as well as I like any of MacReady's work. I think he's over-estimated as an artist." Instantly I was on the defensive for
Colin. I found myself resenting the
ract that Win should talk like this. Win who knew nothing of art and cared even less! Once I would have accepted his casual criticism, even in ihe face of my own judgment which I knew was superior, since I had been educated in these things and Winthrop had not. "I doubt whether many people would agree with you about Colin," I answered. "His picture is the sensation of the season." "He seems to have made you the sensation of the season. Your name is on every list of guests I read about. You used to say you cared nothing about society. You seem to be running it hard enough now." So that rankled still with him! I made a sudden effort to please him. "If you knew how I hated it, and the people, the old ones and the new ones too. I want to drop it all " "That's where you are foolish. You have made some influential friends." "Please!" I begged. "Let's not talk of it, Win, dear. This is just the way
we used to begin. Let's don't do it again." For answer he came over to me
quickly and kissed me again. And as, always, his kiss n,aae me torget every-1 thing but my own great love for him. "How different the place seems," I
said to start a new line of conversation, to get away from our dangerous topic. I walked about, looking at the various new objects. A snapshot on the mantle caught my eye Win and some men and women I did not know, standing in bathing suits on a beach. Win, following me, gave me their names. Another picture showed Win standing by a canoe, and Gwen. easily recognized even in an amateur snapshot, siting in the canoe. She took an extraordinarily good photograph; the test of anyone's appearance is always in these "snaps." "You moved into my room," I began, wondering" whether there was any sentiment in his moving.
"Yes, it had three windows. You know, my old room had only one," he answered, destroying the sentiment at once. He opened the door and I went in, smiling at the change in a place that I had made so dainty and feminine. It was now, in spite of the delicate graceful lines of its furniture, typically a man's bedroom. Win's brushes and combs were on the chiffonier, however, and on the little dressing table I had used, nothing but a large photograph of Gwen, set in a frame of beautifully carved silver. I walked through the other rooms, Win with me. Everywhere I was met with pictures pictures of Gwen or of other women, of almost everyone but myself. "You used to have a lot of pictures of me," I said foolishly, but unable to conquer my resentment.
"I know," he answered casually. "I tore thera all up after you left. Are you jealous?" That was the unforgivable question. Tomorrow "Quarrel."
and I broke up about two years ago. I can't get him out of my mind. How can I get him back, or would you advise me to wait and let him take its course? Every fellow I meet I go crazy about. Please tell me how to overcome this as I know it is wrong. BLONDE. Probably the reason you do not make
boy friends is because you act "crazy" about them. Keep your feelings in check and be more reserved. If you are reserved but sweet, you will be far more attractive than if you are over-pleasant and eager. Do nothing to win back your former sweetheart. That chapter of your life is closed and the sooner you realize the fact the better for you because you will be happier. To dwell on the past keeps you from enjoying the present. Try to be interesting and charming, but do not force romance. N Let men seek you and do not pursue them.

Alaska prospectors, who were able recently to work, for the first time, Turnagain Arm, a branch of the sea on the government railroad near here, report that the body of water is almost literally "paved with gold." THE THROAT AND NECK As I have often said in this space, age shows on the throat and neck sooner than in the face. This part of the body should never be neglected in any course of beauty treatments, and yet unfortunately it is almost always overlooked. Of course it is always possible to cover up a bad neck by wearing collars, and yet high collars only make the face look older. Flat or low collars, open a little in tho front, give one a youthful appearance. Another reason why I am astonished
at the neglect of the throat and neck is that it is so much more easily treated than the face. If you want to eliminate wrinkles from the throat you can massage with cocoa butter, which is too heavy for the more delicate complexion of the face. The treatment is somewhat the same as the face treatment. Wring an old towel from hot water and wrap it around the throat for a moment, long enough to open the pores of the skin. Then use cocoa butter or flesh-building cream, almond oil or olive oil, and massage thoroughly until the skin seems to have absorbed all it will hold. Exercises are good and should be practiced in connection with massage, in fact they are even more beneficial if they are done while the emolient is on the skin. The best exercise is that of rolling
the head around and round over the shoulders, bending it and stretching it as much as you comfortably can. The' cream can then be wiped off and ice or some other astringent used to end the treatment. Peggy: With brown eyes, chestnut hair and color to the complexion, you should wear all the rich browns and
yellows, especially that of burnt or
ange. AH of the autumn shades will be your colors and the pastel ones, such as french-grey and delicate tints
from all colors. H. J. G.: Develop the upper part of the body by deep breathing and mast-aging the tissues with any nourishing oil, 6uch as that from cocoanuts or cocoa butter. Hopeful: The skin should be cleansed first in any treatment and the ice is used at the end of it to close the pores. If you are trying to clear the skin of blackheads, open the pores with a hot damp cloth, holding it over
the place until the skin has been soft-1 ened and steamed. The blackhead powder or some cleansing cream will
then be used to remove this hardened
substance, but do not keep up this treatment until the skin is irritated, as
it will require many such treatments to entirely dislodge this soil from the pores. All Inquiries addressed to Mrs. Forbes in care of the "Beauty Chits" department will be answered in these columns In their turn. This requires considerable time, however, owing: t-j the great number received. SOME WEEKS AGO a man had a chance to buy some property at a bargain. He did not have money enough to swing the deal so he went to his banker and told him all about hi3 proposition. The banker knew the proposition was a good one so he loaned him the money without delay. Another man in that same town had a chance to make some money in the same way so he went to the banker to borrow the funds needed.
But he told the banker only a small part of his story seemed afraid to trust the banker with his plans. The banker wisely refused to have a hand in a proposition he did not understand. Your banker is keenly interested in your welfare and he will do all he can to help you win larger success. But he must not work in the dark- you must trust him fully if you want his confidence in return. Think it over.
