SYMPHONY PROGRAM IS WARMLY RECEIVED IN OPENING CONCERT The finest technique, feeling, and Interpretation were achieved by the Richmond Symphony orchestra in Us

first appearance of the reason Tuesday evening at the Coliseum, when it gave a concert, anslsted by Mme. Louise H. Slade. of the Chicago Opera company. If applause is a criterion, the performance met with the favor of the audience which made up in enthusiasm what it lacked in numbers. Mme. Slade, the concert soloist, was forced to respond with an encore at the end of each of her numbers. She possesses a contralto voice of good tone and rich timbre. The orchestra opened the program with the four movements from LuiBini's "Ballet Egyptien," light,- weird tunes possessing all the swaying rythm and strange melodies that characterize Oriental music. Two numbers from the memory music contest the sextet from "Lucia" and triumphal march from "Aida" followed. Audience Is Pleased. Mme. Slade sang next, her number being an aria, "Voce de Donna" from Gioconda," by Ponchielli. Her encore was from "Carmen." Frederick K. Hicks, concert master of the Symphony orchestra, played "Minuet In G" by Beethoven, drawing tones of birdlike clearness from his violin in a marvelous interpretation of the number which held his audience entranced. The perfect accord with which the orchestra acts was never demon

strated better than iu the legen "Zorahayda" in its instintaneous responses to the baton of Conductor Maddy, in which it matched its fortissimo passages with delicate pianissimo effects. The violin solo was played by Concert Master Hicks with rare feeling. The versatility of Miss Slade was (iiven ample opportunity to display itself In the group of American songs which she rendered as the sixth number of the program. To an insistent encore she responded with the negro spiritual "The Old Ark's a 'Moverin. " Conductor Applauded. Three more numbers by the symphony orchestra which closed with a brilliant rendition of Scharwenka's "Polish Dance No. 1" completed the program. Conductor Maddy was called

back twice by the audience at the close of the concert. Short talks were given by John H. Johnson and Oliver P. Nusbaum. Mr. Johnson announced that the Symphony orchestra would present the Cleveland orchestra in concert here on Nov. 8, and urged that everyone hear the organization. The Cleveland orchestra, is reputed to be one of the finest American orchestras, played

before the record-breaking house of the season in New York City last winter, when it appeared at the Hippodrome. Tickets are to be on sale at Weisbrod's for the concert. Tuesday, Nov. 8. Mr. Nusbaum. president of the finance council of the Civic Musk; association, announced the next number of the course which will be the rendition of Handel's "Messiah" on December 28 by the Symphony, orchestra, ' Festival chorus, and visiting soloists.

Do you care as much for your babies as a florist cares for his flowers?

EVERY florist knows this: Flowers which will thrive in air warmed by hot -water radiators will wilt in the heat from a hot-air furnace or stove. Warm, moist air builds health; hot, dry air undermines it. Have you ever considered these facts in their relation to the winter health of your babies? The American Radiator Company considered them when conducting the scientific experiments that produced ARCOLA. You simply must see ARCOLA. It is new and differen t. Built by the Company whose larger heating plants warm mansions, cathedrals and even the White House itself, it is guaranteed to be the most perfect hot-water heating outfit for small homes and stores which science has produced.

Handsome as a fine piece of furniture and costing surprisingly little, it stands in the living-room, dining-room or kitchen, flooding the room with warmth. American Radiators connected with it, carry its warmth to every other room ; while the kitchen tank, also connected, provides an abundance of hot water for washing and bathing. And we guarantee that if your home is now heated by stoves or a hot-air furnace, ARCOLA will pay for itself in the fuel it will save. It burns any kind of fuel. For the sake of your babies' health for the

sake of your bank account Engineer andseeARCOLA today."

The red and yellow card at 'the right is the sign of a Heating or Sanitary Engineer (you used to call him Steamfitter or Plumber) who can show you ARCOLA. Look for it in his window. It will pay you to consult him twice a year as you do your Doctor or Dentist. To have him examine and report on your heating and plumbing costs little. It may save you a very great deal.
