GOVERNMENT CONTROL !

SEEN ON EVERY HAND, IN BOLSHEVIST CITY

(By Associated Press) MOSCOW. Oct. 20 Government everywhere, nothing but government! Such Is the impression that a for

eigner who has known Moscow of old gets in entering the Bolsheviki capital today. All the hotels are government committee headquarters. The same Is true of department stores, office buildings, chibs, cafes and larger private houses. All theatres are government theatres.

Queues of Russians and foreigners are awaiting in the streets before most larger buildings for permits to buy railroad tickets or perform some ordinary transaction such as a New Yorker would dispose of over the telephone in five minutes. The motor cars are all government cars and are monopolized by government employes. The street cars are run by the government and employes.

especially woricmen, nave urst can.

on the few cars which run chiefly at times when workmen are going to or from work. Railway trains are few and seem to be crowded largely with government employes and soldiers. Government Runs Factories Factories which are in operation are run by the government and work chiefly on government supplies, such as railway repairs, motor repairs, airplane repairs and other army supplies. The Kremlin, formerly the ecclesiastical center for Russia and the historic shrine which Romanoff traditions centers, is all government. Its churches are closed. Hospitals and orphangages and schools are run by the government. Many of the orphanges have nearly as many attendants as they have orphans. To American eyes, the railways seem to be overstaffed. Trains and stations are alive with officials and guards, many of whom seem unnecesary because of the general quiet that prevails. Recalled Old Employes. But, after all, the railways and tele

graphs and telephones and posts are i

in much the same hands they were be-j fore Bolshevism triumphed. The men who knew the technic of the various public service organizations had to be recalled very largely. Many of them make no pretension that they are Communists or even Socialists. Three years have brought about a remarkable change in the attitude of Red army men and all government employes toward the general public. There is a great modification of the acerbity which characterized the early days of the Bolshevist control. This spirit has disappeared, to a very large degree. The success of the government in overthrowing its adversaries has given a feeling of security and it now functions much as other governments do. Guards, messengers, bureau chiefs and higher officials are more cordial. White collars are no longer banned. Black leather coats are not regarded as the only suitable uniform for a Bolshevist official.

COIN 260,000 SILVER DOLLARS EACH DAY

fBy Associated Press) SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.. Oct. 20. Approximately 260,000 silver dollars are being made daily at the San Francisco mint, under recent instructions to speed up production, according to Superintendent M. J. Kelly. Every department is working to its full capacity and the mint is so busythat the plant officials have suspended, for a time, the rales permitting visitors to inspect tho establishment. According to Mr. Kelly, the coining

of silver dollars is being increased ia order that the government might save interest on short time treasury notes. Moldy Corn May Cause Death of Animals, Warning COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 20. Moldy corr due to the injury by corn ear worm, may cause sickness and death to animals, according to H. A. Gossard, entomologist at the Ohio experiment station. Gossard urges farmers to make careful inspection of ears and fodder this season, and all moldy feed discarded. .Owing to the long growing season this year, the corn ear worm has been doing unusual damage, the entomologist said. Reports show that the worm has even attacked greenhouse crops, and also been found destructive in flower gardens and alfalfa fields.

This is ARCOLA Week Many dealers' stores are keeping open evenings so that you and she may see Arcola together

YOUR Heating Engineer is keeping open house this week ARCOLA Week. You and she are invited to go together to see ARCOLA. And what does this invitation mean? It means money in the bank for you. For ARCOLA will reduce your fuel consumption, room for room, an average of one-third as compared with stoves or hot-air furnaces. You can put into the bank one -third of what you have been putting into the fire. It means a warm-all-over house instead of a house hot in spots and cold everywher eelse. 1 1 m cans all the hot water you want for washing and bathing. For ARCOLA,

connected with the kitchen tank, heats your water as well as it heats your whole house. Accept your Heating Engineer's invitation. You will see a heating outfit different from any you have ever known. ARCOLA adds from two to five times its cost to the value of your home just as IDEAL Boilers and larger AMERICAN Radiator systems add far more than their cost to the value of larger buildings. It burns any kind of fuel and under the expert direction

of your Heating Engineer, it can be delivered, set up, and put to work at once.

8ee ARCOLA Today or Tonight The red and yellow card at the right is the sign of a Heating or Sanitary Engineer (you used to call him Steamfitter or Plumber) who can show you ARCOLA. Look for it in bis window. It will pay you to consult him twice a year as you do your Doctor or Dentist. To have him examine and report on your heating and plumbing costs little. It may save you a great deal.
