AUTO LICENSE TAGS MAY BE ISSUED HERE,

SAYS STATE OFFICIAL

Automobile license tags probably will be Issued next year right here in Richmond, through the Hoosier State Automobile association at its local headquarters at 12 North Tenth ttreet. H. D. McClelland, head of the motor vehicle department under Ed Jackson, secretary of state, and M. E. Xoblet, manager of the Hoosier State Automobile association were in Richmond Tuesday, conferring with Fred Bethard. director of the Hoosier State Automobile association, and with L B. Campbell, who has been acting as manager of the Wayne county branch cf the automobile association during th past summer. Mr. McClelland stated that the present headquarters could be arranged very satisfactorily and that in all probability final arrangements would be completed with the automobile association to go ahead and issue the tags. ThU will mean that any automobile owner who applies at the office of the Hoosier Automobile association can fill in his application blank, pay the money and get the license tags without having to send to Indianapolis as heretofore. Must Present Certificate. It ill be necessary, according to instructions from Mr. McClelland, that in each instance the owner present his certificate of title so that it may be Inspected at the time the application I for license tags is made out These applications must be made in person and can not be handled by mail. There are a great many motorists in Richmond and Wayne county, according to Mr. Campbell, who have not yet learned that during the past summer touring information has been supplied to motorist from local headquarters. Auto trail maps, wall maps and various other types of information have been available at headquarters I here so that the tourists as well as ' local people have been getting real horvice. Expect More Members It is expected that local membership in the Hoosier State Automobile association will be greatly increased as the public learns to know more of what is going on. At present Richmond probably has a smaller membership than any of the other branches throughout the state where the automobile association has arranged to issue license tags. "We have really made no particular effort," said Mr. Noblett, "to increase our membership in Richmond partly because we have had so much road marking and sign posting and organization work to. look after in other parts of the state and partly because we wanted the service started in Richmond some time ahead of the membership work. "Another thing that the local automobile owner does not realize is that in all the larger towns throughout Indiana any member may have first aid mechanical service, towing service or gasoline delivery within a radius of five miles free of charge as one of the benefits of membeiship in the Automobile association. In Richmond the member simply calls 2600 and then the operator relays the call to the dealer of whatever car is in distress. If it happens that the call comes after these places are closed arrangements have been made to give night service." "It is high time," said Mr. Eethard, "that the motorists of this county realize that it is not only an opportunity but that they are under obligaions to belong to the Hoosier Automobile association by virtue of the fact that all the road and motoring legislation se

cured In Indiana, the road marking and sign posting, the supplying of touring Information and the protection to the motoring public has been through the co-operative work and leadership of the Hoosier State Automobile association which has membership organizations In all counties in the state."
