MURRAY Some of Harry Carey's biggest screen successes have been adapted from published novels especially "Tie Outcasts of Poker Flat." "Sundown Slim." "Marked Men" and "West Is Wost." His latest photo-drama, "I Only Jom, now being shown at the Murray theatre, Is based on "Bruvver Jim's Baby," the popular story- by Philip tV. Mighels. which was. one of the beat sellers a few years ago. It is unusual to 6ee a western picture without a stage coach In it The
film writers still cling to the idea that
the old hprse drawn vehicle is still In vogue in the "wild and wooly west"
and In consequence one is always seen
lumbering in early m the action.
William Duncan, the Vitagraph stardirector, is . thoroughly familiar with
all parts of ; the west and has given a glimpse ctf the real country in "Where MenAre Men," which will be shown at Murray theatre beginning Monday. The story deals with the Death Valley gold mining section at the presant time and shows conditions as they exist The mining settlement. Sliding Rock, is typical of hundreds seen in the West today. Sunrise Camp is a real rest resort in California and the
stage from Sliding Rock to Sunrise Camp is not the; old horse drawn vehicle. Instead and here is the surpriseit is a 1923. model automobile. A touring car of the latest model replacing the old stage coach! The West has advanced as rapidly as the East in that respect and the old stage coach is found only in fiction and the most isolated places. Edith Johnson, co-star, has a 6trong role opposite Duncan and proves herself a star of the first magnitude. MURRETTE There are three leading roles in the rew Goldwyn picture. "Ace of Hearts," which is closing tonight at the Murrette theatre. In this story from the pen of Governor Morris, Leatrice Joy, Lon Chaney and John Bowers divide equal honors in the three stellar roles. The all-star cast was directed by Wallace Worsley.

Potato Crop Short COLUMBUS, Ind., Oct. 15. The potato crop in Bartholomew county is short this year, a total failure in some localities in the county, with the result that many farmers must buy their winter's supply of potatoes. The farmers
of the county are buying potatoes collectively through their township farm bureaus and at a meeting of the Columbus township bureau here the organization voted to order a carload to be distributed among members of the bureau. The farmers bought fertilizer collectively in like manner and are i also buying their coal in the same jway.

Mary Forbes, who has a prominent role in John M. Stahl's . "The Child Thou Gavest Me," a First National attraction, which will be shown at the Murrette Theatre, Sunday, is one of England's stage stars who gave up fame and a career to enter the World War as a nurse. Her services of three years covered work at the front and in the hospitals of Paris and London. While at the front she was made a captive in one of the Germans' raids, but was fortunate in getting on an parly exchange list Upon her discharge she was decorated for loyal and valiant service. Prior to entering the war. Miss Forbes had her own company at the Ambassador Theatre in London, where
she combined the role and stage manager. She makes her American film debut in "The Child Thou Gavest
Me." RICHMOND.
The engagement of "The End of the Road" will be brought to a close with the performances Sunday. Those who do not believe in the hypothesis upon which it is based will condemn it out
ana out. inose wno accept it as
Round doctrine will estimate its value upon its apparent ability to accomplish its avowed purpose. Considered from the latter point of view the drama is the most valuable production of its kind yet produced. "The End of the Road," isn't exactly 1'leasant seeing, though there is nothing in its powerful graphic presenta
tion to which the most fastidious can
object. It is the reality that horrifies. It is unpleasant though only to a degree necessary for clearness. It is never morbid. One feels clean after seeing it. Words are not minced and rothing is left to the imagination. It bears out the slogan, "Let the truth be known.' " Performances of "The End of the Road" at the Richmond Theatre are continuous, no children being admitted unless accompanied bv parent. MURRAY VAUDEVILLE. A comedy feature of this bill will be Charles Semon, "The Narrow Feller." His appearance and musical oddities put him over for one big hit His bassoon rag and a new Instrument which he calls the Ukelele chimes show that when he wants to he can play real music. Another interesting act will be Phina and company, a colored aggregation of six artists who sing and dance, and know how to inject the necessary "pep" so essential to a successful vaudeville act. These three big acts will constitute the vaudeville portion the last half.

Thoughts of a Playerle'ss Piano "Well, I've been leading the quiet life for so long now that I'd be afraid to try anything snappier than "Silver Threads Among The Gold." I feel about as up-to-date as one of those magazines you see in a dentist's office. "Nobody In this house pays any attention to me since that young fellow went away. But maybe he and I didn't turn out some music together! We certainly were a great pair, even if I do say it myself. "He knew just how to treat a piano. He just loved to sit right beside an upright. He could talk bably talk to a baby grand, all right. He was a wonder. "Oh well, those days are over. Here comes my owner, with some company. She's telling him to go ahead and play me. I bet he tries "Sweet And Low" or some of that stuff. No! He's a live one he's playing something brand new. "Say he's got me tickled all over with this melody. I'm feeling young again. What's that? 'All rigth,' he says, 'I'll take your piano I thought it sounded like a good one from your ad in the Palladium.' Hurrah I'm going back to a musical career again!" (Copyright 1921)
