With this column is Inaugurated a new department In the Palladium devoted to the publication of news that is Interesting to wireless amateurs in Richmond and neighboring cities. The news will be published every Tuesday hereafter. It is the intention of this depart-

parents and teachers in one of the largest conventions held 6ince the organization of the association in Indiana in 1912. After a feeble start in that year the association has expanded until at the present time Mrs. Hence Orme, president, estimates that 27,000 teachers and parents are cooperating In the clubs throughout the state. Has Elaborate Organization. The state association now has an elaborate organization. The state is divided into 13 districts conforming to the congressional districts. Each district is divided into counties also con

forming to the county boundary lines. A vice-president is appointed for each

district and the work in each county

is supervised by a county chairman.

In this state the association has the following departments: better films.

child hygiene, child psychology, country life, education, home education, visual education, loan papers, legislation, literature, home economics, press and publicity, ways and means, humane education and recreation. Through these departments the association aims to impart to all parents and teachers the Information that pertains to child welfare. Headquarters of the convention will be at the Claypool hotel. Arrangements have been made for rooms for some of the delegates in private homes at a nominal price and Mrs. Orme has announced that rooms will be assigned at the registration table at the Claypool hotel.

Many New Uses. New uses to which the wireless is put is a news matter also. For in

stance, a farmer suggested after listening to the wireless telephone at a county fair, that radio might be

developed so as to operate a milking machine. "Then we can stay in town in the evening, he said, "instead of going home to do the milking just as the movies are starting." It is not probable that such a development will come soon, although all amateurs are familiar with the fact that autos, boats and airships have been operated by wireless. But a school football team might call together members for a practice game by wireless, business might be done by wireless, or some

other comparatively new use may

occur to local amateurs and be tested out by them. What everyone is particularly interested in now is work that can be done by wireless that will show a practical, commercial value. Notices of the meetings of the DX

column. Proceedings of DX Radio Club Election of a board of directors, consisting of Charles Snyder, president, Leslie Hart, Walter Schultz and Dr. H. Riley Spitler of Eaton, was one of the actions of the club at its second meeting, held in Hart's Electric Shop, on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 12. The station at Cape May was heard by an Eaton station on Tuesday, it

was announced at the Wednesday

night meeting of the DX Radio club,

The home-made receiving set manufactured by Charles Emrick, was used

for the reception, being hooked up to Willard Overbolser's aerial at his sta

tion. The same installation received SWJZ, a Westinghouse telephone set at Newark, N. J., as well as a station at Cambridge, Mass. All three telephones were sending out the world's series returns. Emrick's set is made up on the Westinghouse pattern, with primary

and secondary wound together, and with a variable condenser and a vernier condenser which makes possible a very light adjustment. One stage of amplification is provided and was used for the distance work this week. The aerial was a flat top four wire, about 75 feet in length and 45 feet high. Hears Telephone on Crystal Elmer Elleman, of Richmond, reported that he heard 9ZAE on his new Westinghouse crystal set very dis

tinctly on Wednesday night about 11 o'clock. Although it has been reported that telephone has also been heard

on crystal as far as Cambridge City,

it is not well established what sue

cess may be obtained locally in clearness and audibility and in distance with crystal sets on phone work. Reports of other accomplishments with crystal might be interesting. Somerville Hears Returns Earle Bourne of Somerville, O., reports getting the world series very
