The agreement entered into between the county and Mr. and Mrs. David Esteb regarding the proposed tuberculosis hospital, to which neither party affixed a signature, pending a legalizing act by the last general assembly, should be faithfully carried out by the county. The agreement, which was entered into in good faith by both parties, is binding on both, not only morally but also legally. When the county entered into the agreement to accept the
UllCl, lb U1U 9U V 11.11 IUC U11UC1DI,U1U111 LI Id I, LUG terms of the instrument would be carried out as
soon as the legislature passed a law permitting
the county to accept the offer. The legislature has passed the required legislation, and as a matter of good faith, the county
authorities should now proceed to fulfill tho
terms of the agreement.
The cost of the tuberculosis hospital will not
work a hardship on a taxpayer. The cost, it has been computed, will amount to only 19 cents on $1,000 taxable property. This sum is so small in comparison with the inestimable good of a tuberculosis hospital that it is folly to base oppo
sition to the plan on the question of taxation. If 40 to 50 persons die of tuberculosis in Wayne county annually, their deaths prove the necessity of an institution to combat the ravages of the disease. If the deaths of only one or two
persons can be prevented during the first year of the hospital's existence, it will have justified
the expense. Let every family head localize, this issue to himself. If a member of his family became ill of tuberculosis today, he could not find an institution in Indiana which could accept him for treatment. All of them are filled with patients. He would have no place to which he could turn for treatment, excepting to send him to a western state, and reports from there state all available hospital facilities are exhausted.
The need of the hospital is urgent, no matter
from what angle you view the situation.
A splendid offer to provide the hospital has been made, and surely it is 'incumbent upon the county authorities to accept it without further delay. The health and lives' of 40 to 50 persons are involved in their decision. The hospital, one may say without exaggeration, means the first real, decisive blow struck for the eradication of the disease in Wayne county.

TODAY'S TALK By George Matthew Adams, Author cf "You Can". "Take It". "Uo" - : STEEPLES' ' . There has always been something inexplainably fascinating to me about steeples whether they be those of a church or school or what not. A town doesn't look like a town without its steeples. Stevenson once wrote that his "favorite kind of mountain scenery" was found in the admiration he had for great cathedrals. A man couldn't be much of a pessimist and an admirer of steeples at the same time. For, you see, he would have to look up to see them. And pessimists look down! And in the case of a great cathedral, how the spires play among themselves never quarreling. We are lost spirits in a strange world when we fail to be uplifted by the evidences of aspiration made a reality all about us, such as in the reaching steeples which are appreciated by so few. I talk with many people and see imaginary steeples pointing up '. through their words and attitude. Somehow, the big God manages ". to plant in the hearts of some people a kind of power that-doesn't let them fail. He builds steeples right up through their daily aspirations and they win in spite of everything. If you were in New York City and would walk down Broadway and stand at the corner of Wall Street and look into the face of that in- ' spiring steeple that makes the old Trinity Church so notable a structure, you would understand steeples anew. The great skyscraper buildings almost bury this historic building. But there it stands in all its beauty and dignity its spire pointing upward to greater things than all the mammoth fortunes made about its lap. When we look upward, we touch the lines of infinity. Our vision is made over and we find the fingers of perpetual hope which interlock with ours and we smile because we belive and have confidence. Steeples mean a great deal to the world!
