REDS LOSE FINAL NATIONAL LEAGUE GAME IN CHICAGO CHICAGO. Sept. 29. The Cubs and the Reds rang down the curtain on the National league season in Chicago, Wednesday with a cleanly contested
game, from which the Chicago team emerged victors, by a score of 3 to 1. Although they were outbatted by a small margin, in an airtight slab battle, the Cuba won because their pitchers did not give a base on balls, compelling every man to earn his way to first, while the two passes handed the Cubs were productive of runs. Killifer gave Martin a work-out to tune him up for the city series and be worked for five rounds when he was Jerked for a pinch hitter. Kauffman went in and finished the game, allowing the Reds only one run. The score: Cincinnati. AB.R. Preliminaries in the 1921 world's series today reached the semi-final stage when Tris Speaker led his championship Cleveland club into a four game series with the seventh place Chicago White Sox. Mixed with the Indians' determination to make it four in a row from their lowly opponents, despite Red Faber and Dick Kerr, two of the league's best hurlers, necessarily was a prayer for the leading New York Yankees to falter in at least one of their remaining quartette of games, to permit the Clevelanders to contest with the National League victors for baseball's premier honor. Today was Kerr day at Comiskey park, and with the dimuntive moundsman to be showered with gifts and thousands of his admirers to be on hand, it was regarded as probable that he would be sent out to turn back the fighting Indians. The pitcher had not been announced this morning, however, and it was regarded a-? possible that Faber would be the choice. There was no indication as to who would pitch for Cleveland. The day dawned cloudy and humid, with a forecast for showers by afternoon. - Multiplie itself 3 V Soothes the skin Acts quickly V7 7 J fc3 mf J Maintains itself

We wanted to give men the benefits of palm and olive oils in shaving. We knew these softening, soothing 01I3 were the best for the face for 3,000 years that had been known. But the problem was to apply their balmy blend to a shaving cream. It was not easy though we certainly knew soap making well. Our creation of the finest toilet soap known had proved that. We made up and tested scientifically 130 different kinds of shaving cream. All other known creams also were tested to learn their virtues and their faults. And step by step, and month by month, we improved formulas until perfection was reached in each quality desired. Formula No. 130 was right

A London temperance orator was In the habit of holding forth in a workman's hall, and was constantly being interrupted. The next time he lectured in that hall he engaged a prize fighter to sit in the gallery and keep order. He was contrasting the clean content of the home life with the squalor of drunkenness. "What do we want when we return from our daily toil?" he asked. "What do we desire to ease our burdens, to gladden our hearts, to bring smiles to .our lips and joy to our eyes?" As the orator paused for breath the prize fighter shook his fist at the unruly members of the gallery and whispered in a loud undertone: - "Mind yer, the first bloke what says 'beer,' out he goes!" IF INDIANS WIN FOUR FROM SOX, YANKEES NEED THREE OUT OF 4
(By Associated Press) NEW YORK. Sept. 29. The Philadelphia Athletics may be in last place in the American league, but they can boast of a Babe Ruth in outfielder C. Walker, whose total home runs today number 25 for the season. Walker is adding to his string with such regularity that the New York Yankees will watch him closely in their three game series with the Athletics, which begins in Philadelphia today. i Should Cleveland, - which today started a four game series with the White Sox, make a clean sweep, the Yankees must win three out of fonr to retain their first place position. The fourth game on the Yank's sched ule is with the Boston Red Sox, at the Polo grounds Sunday. Beside? Walker, the New York team has Pitcher Ed Zowell to worry about. This Athletic twirler has proven almost as much of a jinx to the locals as has Pitcher Urban Shocker, of ths Browns, who shut them out Tuesday.'
