Automobile Thefts Decrease in Ohio

Automobile stealing has - taken a decided slump in Ohio cities since the registration law went into effect. In Columbus, reports of stolen

automobiles have fallen off 50 per cent during the three weeks the law has been in operation. A private detective bureau in that city says it has not had a report of a stolen automobile, whereas the weekly average was seven to ten

before the law became operative.

No statistics are available in Indiana as to

the effect of the certificate of ownership law

here, but, it may be assumed that the statute

is working equally as effectively in this state.

The certificate of ownership prevents the thief from disposing of the automobile with the

ease with which this formerly was done, and

consequently acts as a deterrent.

Whenever thieves can dispose of their loot easily through some fence or broker, they ply

their trade with abandon. As soon as the marketability ceases, the looting operations of

thieves are curtailed. Automobiles have been one of the easiest kinds of property to sell. The laws of Indiana and of other states demanding a certificate of ownership before a person can sell a car, as well as the federal act providing punishment for automobiles stolen in one state and sold in another, are rapidly breaking up rings of automobile

thieves, it is believed.

Movie of a Man Taking Medicine

Good Evening By ROY K. MOULTON

A decline in food prices is being predicted. We have been declining some of them for some time. One suburban theatre advertises: "One lady free with every 25 cent ticket." But there are seme pessimists among the men who would not take a lady a3 a gift. Newspaper item says, "Telephone communication across the Atlantic ocean possible in six months." Only about a month longer than it takes to pet a connection on this continent.

The human body contains twenty-

two pounds and ten ounces of carbon or enough to make 9,369 lead pencils

Now we understand why Henry Clay said he'd rather write than be

president. VERY LITTLE, INDEED.

There will be very little change in trousers this year. Fashion hint in

a New York paper. That offensive and defensive aliance between Chile and Sweeden ought to work out first rate, as they are 8.000 miles apart and never see each other. The government is advertising some gunboats for sale. It must be that the war is over at last.

TODAY'S TALK By George Matthew Adams, Author of "You Can", "Take It", "Up" DRAUGHTS AND DAMPERS Dampers are checks. They are also savers. Attached to a heating apparatus, they check the draughts and save the fuel. And they are very essential. An open Damper on a furnace might so heat things up as to cause an explosion or a fire. On the other hand, It might be so turned as to put out the ftre in the furnace. This is just as true concerning the Dampers that regulate your actions and, so. make up your character. For human beings have Draughts and Dampers and there's a Damper for every Draught. Remember to use your Dampers. Thought is a Damper. So are judgment, and conscience, and duty, and experience. And there are many others. Study your Draughts. Enthusiasm, energy, willpower, money there's a Damper for every one. If you use them intelligently, it means power. If you forget to use them at all, it means explosion fire ruin, perhaps. If enthusiasm sweeps you off your feet, turn on the judgment Damper. If power threatens to make you thoughtless, reckless, turn on the conscience Damper. Remember always that you have Dampers. But don't let anyone else use them! Don't let anybody else turn any Dampers on your enthusiasm, your ideas, your plans or your work. Run your own Dampers. Study them with great care. It's knowing exactly when and how to use your Dampers that makes the difference between success and failure for you.

WORDS OF WISDOM. Before you venture forth in style, in your new bus or lorry, Just paste this maxim in your tile: "Play safe, or you'll be sorry." Because the reckless fo their way, in motor cars bespangled, a hundred eents. each pass

ing day, are badlv killed or mangled, i medical and financial matters.

Because the reckless rip and roar where wiser ones have tarried, a hundred gents, or maybe more, are to the boneyard carried. Oh, bear in mini the traffic rules, as your large bus advances, for only murderers or fools will speed and take the chances. With care propel your costly dray, all sipns and signals seeing: it is an awful thing to slay a useful human being. It is an awful thing to know that by your careless driving, you've laid a fellow mortal low, and kept him from surviving. When once some

fatal accident is charged up to your speeding, you'l fill the skies with your lament, your heartstrings will be bleeding; but that don't help you worth a dime, r.o comfort can you borrow; you didn't make your choice in time "twixt safety and grim sorrow. Avoid the sorrow and laments, the useless wails and curses, and bear in mind the stricken gents who rirkaway in hearses. may passibly conceive of an occasional reformation resulting but what of the effect on the general moral tone, on the imaginations of the hundreds of persons with hitherto healthy and

normal minds? It is sometimes said that he does not row follow these disgusting and blasphemous lines of discussion. Quite recently in Indianapoli he twisted and changed the story of Abram and Sara in Egypt in order that he might say "Abe lied and I would have lied too if any old lobster came around trying

jto carry maw off," and his remarks about conscientious objectors to war

nave so recently Deen made public that it is not necessary to quote them here. Mr. Sunday is said to understand well the psychology of the crowd. Here is an instance of the working of the kind of phychology generated by his influence:

In an Ohio city the women's meet

ing was advertised to begin at two o'clock. At eleven 6,000 people were packed into the auditorium. The

I streets for more than a block were so ! jammed with women as to suspend

traffic. The doors were closed and locked. The women outside broke them down, beat the ushers over the head with umbrellas, ran hatpins into the policemen who were trying to

reduce the crazy mob to something like decency and order, infirm women were knocked down and trampled and all this, all of the rioting orgies

Here is a sentence from a description of a woman's meeting: "Thousands of women and girls crowded the tabernacle to hear an address in which the holiest, most beautiful impulses of youth and sex were subjected to a kind of bar-room or slaughter house analysis." Has Mr. Sunday ever given thought to the command "whatever things are pure, holy and of good report, think on these things?" There is a history of the moral aftermath of such revivals which may never be written but any student of the psychology of the emotions will not need explanation of what is meant. A Billy Sunday convert in a certain city was permitted by the Sunday sympathizing parents of a beautiful young girl to marry her. She was in her grave in four vears.
