CASHIER IS MISSING, $21,000 BONDS GONE FROM TELL CITY BANK

EVANSVILLE, Ind., Sept. 16. Alphonse Schearer,. cashier of the Tell City National bank at Tell City, Ind., has disappeared and $21,000 worth of Liberty bonds are missing from safety boxes in the bank. Schearer left Tell City, Aug. 21, ostensibly for Louisville, telling his friends and relatives that he would return in a short time. It was learned later that, after crossing the Ohio river at Hawesville, Ky., he took a west

bound train instead of the eastbound train, which would have taken him to Louisville. Nothing, however, was thought of it until several days had elapsed, when Robert Schearer, brother of the missing man, started an in

vestigation, as he feared his brother

had met with foul play. Found Record Correct.

Officials of the bank went over the books, but found nothing wrong in the

records and consoled themselves in the belief that Schearer would return in a short time. Finally th bank officials decided to look in the safety boxes where their government bonds and other valuable papers were kept. They discovered that bonds to the value of $21,000 had disappeared. Eugene H. Gough, of Boonville, Ind., a national bank examiner made a thorough examination of the records of the bank and found

that the bonds were the only thing ,

r missing. All the currency was ac

counted for. , The bank ie fully covered by insurance with the American Security Company through the company's office at

Indianapolis.

With Bank 13 Years. Schearer is. a well-known' man of

Tell City and Perry county. . He is 30

years old and single. He went to work

in the bank 13 years ago, when 17

years old, and has grown up with the institution. His honesty had . never been questioned, and the bank directors had implicit confidence in him. About one-half of the missing bonds belonged to depositors, who bad placed

them in the bank for safe keeping. The other bonds were the property of

the bank.

No Other Heater Like It The secret of the unequalled heating capacity of this heater is in the patented, exclusive principles of its construction. Fresh air is introduced at the surface of the fire not at the top of the stove. The oxygen strikes the gases, the smoke and the soot when they are the hottest. Perfect combustion results, and most of the smoke and soot are consumed. The Garland Construction The air is introduced through the nickel screw-draft register at the front of the heater. It passes around between the ring and the slotted firepot, becoming heated, and then passes into a gasring filled with perforations, through which the heated air meets the inflamable gases as they leave the fire below. Perfect CombustionMore Heat By the use of this patented, exclusive construction, the Garland Smokeless Heater is enabled to utilize the heat which would otherwise escape up the chimney in the form of unconsumed smoke and gases.
