Fitzgerald, Civil war veteran, who died at his home in Ft Jefferson recently, haa been filed for probate and record In Judge Younker's court. The Instrument provides for the payment of all his just debts and funeral expenses, and bequeaths to his son, Charles Fitzgerald, the 42acre farm in Neave township, providing he pays to his sister, Cora Bell Broughman, the sum of $2,000, and to

AMn Sears, who resides at Ithaca, was tried in police court recently for abusing his wife, the arrest having been made upon complaint of his wife to Humane Officer Williams that he had assaulted her. Sears pleaded guilty and Mayor Wright assessed a fine of $10 and costs, $19.17 in all, which Sears paid and was released from custody Aubrey Shields was arrested by Patrolman McClellan for assaulting Lon Strobel, and Mayor Wright assessed a fine and costs against Shields, which was secured. The trouble is alleged to have started over a girl. The damage case of Laura Bailey, administrator of the estate of George M. Bailey vs. the P. C. Funeral services over the remains of Erk M. Cottrell, second lieutenant in the World war, killed in France, Oct. 7, 1913, whose body was sent home for burial, was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of his parents. 531 Washington Avenue, and was largely attended. Rev. Youmans, pastor of the Christian church, delivered the sermon and f-ervices were held under the auspices of Erk Cottrell Post, American Legion and the body given a military burial in Greenville cemetery. Answers Sheriff's Charges. Grace M. Shuff, through her attorneys Myers and Myers, has filed answer and cross-petition to her husband's divorce petition filed Sept. 7 Mrs. Shuff charges her husband with extreme cruelity and says that shortly before the birth of their child he frequently stayed away from home all night and she did not know where he was. She asks that his petition for divorce be denied, for alimony- for the support of herself and child, for an absolute divorce and the custody of the child and for all other relief to which she may be entitled. Postpone Meguiar Case. The case of the State of Ohio vs.. Robert Meguiar assigned for hearing Sept. 14 in common pleas court before Judge Teegarden and a jury has been continued until the next term of court at the request of Prosecutor John

PLANS NEW OCEAN ROUTES WASHINGTON, Sept. 14. A special study of trade routes between the United States and South America and China is to be undertaken soon by shipping board officials with a view of developing those already established and of inaugurating new lines where needed.
BILL PLACES REGULATION ON SECRET SOCIETIES BATON ROUGE. La., Sept. 14. A bill to prohibit organization of secret societies whose memberships are not made public and to provide penalties therefor, was introduced in the Louisiana legislature yesterday. The bill also would prohibit street parades in disguise.
Mrs. Margaret Stewart Gray. To Mrs. Margaret Stewart Gray belongs the distinction of being the first woman in Pittsburgh to receive a municipal appointment. Mrs. Gray's position is that of superintendent of the bureau of recreation in the department of public works. Mrs. Gray is a mother, a club woman and a business woman. She is said to bring a wealth of social, business and civic experience to her new position and in addition intense enthusiasm.
