GRAIN, PROVISIONS SHOW BETTER STAND ON BOARD OF TRADE
(By Associated Press) CHICAGO, Aug. 27. Grains and provisions futures were on the upgrade in the Chicago Board of Trade transactions this week. Compared with a week ago, net gains were registered of 5U to 6 cents for wheat 2 to 25g for
corn and 14 to 1 for oats. In provisions pork and ribs gained 20 and 22 points respectively and lard registered a net advance of 30 to 40.
There were two main factors in the wheat advance, the first coming with an expected shrinkage in the visible supply figures early in the week. Passage of the bill allowing the war finance corporation to arrange loans totalling up to a billion dollars as aids to agricultural exports was the second and its effect had not all worn out when trading was resumed today. Buyers Become Active.
Local sentiment, which turned to selling last week when a big liquidation movement forced prices down, switched definitely to the buying side in mid-west and the advance in prices
became steadier. There was much disappointment however, over the failure of the bulge to attract outside buyers. On the whole the market remained an affair between traders. This situation caused a slump late yesterday after December had touched $1.22, which was 8 higher than Monday's low point. Corn was strong on steady export sales, big clearances and a healthy industrial demand which helped keep prices up in the face of enormous receipts. Oats were generally dull but firm in sympathy with other grains. Provisons showed a tendency to pick
up after a slow start early in the week. Improvement in the live hog
market was the main influence but extensive export sales formed a contributing factor.

Charles F. Keeney, United Mine Work

A., arrived in Charleston soon after 8 o'clock this morning. At the same time General Bandholtz was starting from Charleston to go over the line of march and see that the "army" had actually disbanded and was going home. The miners had left Madison by special train, and it was expected they would lose no time in getting to the mining towns and villages from which they had set out more than a week
ago for the rendesvous at Marmet.
They were tired and weary after the long march, and the long wait in Madison where Mr. Keeney arranged for the train to bring them back to Charleston. Situation Still Grave In spite of the fact that the march was halted at Madison yesterday afternoon and that Mr. Keeney said the miners would listen to his advice and abandon the enterprise, disquieting rumors began reaching Charleston at an early hour and Increased as the day advanced. General Bandholtz, to get in personal touch with the situation, left Governor Morgan's office with a party of state officers to drive over the line of march. The first objective was
Marmet, where the miners congregated last week preparatory to taking the road to Mingo, and from there it was expected the party would cover the route over which the men had passed to Madison. While latest reports from Racine and Peytonia, where the men had camped, were to
