. MURRAY Although. Eva , Novak scored emphatic hits in her first two starring vehicles. "Wanted at Headquarters" and "The Torrent", her role of the ; New York society girl in "Society Secrets," coming to the Murray Theater ' on Monday, is sore to establish her as a prime favorite. It ia not only one of the . most sympathetic characters ever created for the screen, but is
" equally rich la opportunities lor i
' pathos and humor. MURRAY VAUDEVILLE Bobby Jarvis and company, consist- ' ing of three ladies and one gentleman in their comedy offering, "Man ' Wanted", will headline the new bill at ' the Murray opening Monday matinee, for the firsthalf. This act is a revue of comedy, song, dances and music; carry thir own stage settings and come here direct from Keith's theater, Toledo, O. The supporting acts are Welch and Hazelton, two comedians who make the Murray their opening point from New York City, for their invasion of ' all the Keith western houses in their comedy character sketch, "The Janitor"; Ruth Glandville assisted by Hal Sanders in a refined musical act billing themselves as "The World's Greatest Saxophonists", and Joe Madden, "Comedy Juggler", with Eva No- - vak on the screen in her latest feaJ ture, "Society Secrets".
Sidney Taylor and company will top . the bill . opening Thursday in their J
' comedy sketcn A Thousand Dollars". Other prominent features will be The Great Howard in "A Ventriloquial Oddity"; Mowatt and Mullen, a clever ' comedian and a beautiful girl in "Bits of Comedy and Novelty", and Hector and His Pals, an unusual canine offer- ' ing. Hector is "Just a Dog", but with his ' canine assistants they certainly entertain to the delight of the most critical ' audiences. Carmel Myers will be seen upon the screen in "A Dangerous Moment", a five-reel feature of night life in the great metropolis. The excellent bills seen at the Mur- " ray during the past few weeks are only forerunners of the super-excellent Keith bills to be presented during the coming regular season. MURRETTE Constance Talmadge, pretty, young film star who will be seen in "Wedding Bells." at the Murrette theatre, commencing Sunday, doesn't agree with the person who recently scored ' jazz music by saying: "Jazz expreses hysteria and incites ' to idleness, revelry, dissipation de- ;' struction. discord and chaos. It ac- ' cords with the devastation,' volcanic spirit that has burst over the world in the last six years. Human nerve tisuea respond to this perverted organization of sound just as readily as did those of the voodoo zealots." "I think that's hardly fair to the million of people in the United States who are singing jazz songs and dancing to popular tunes," said Miss Talmadge. "It was only a short time ago when one of our prominent educators ' said that a singing nation was always secure. -

Miss Alice Robertson, the only woman member of congress, and. oddly enough, a pronounced anti-suffragist, has again aroused the. ire of the
woman suffrage leaders in Washington. "Miss Alice" is ODDosed.to hav

X "Show me a t woman in the United States who is qualified, and I might urge her appointment," says the ladv from Oklahoma, adding that no woman, to her knowledge, "possesses the necessary knowledge of diplomacy and the faculty of listening a great deal and saying little." j The remarks attributed to "Miss Alice" have drawn fire from Mrs. Richard Edwards, vice-president of the v National Women's Party, who says: "What Miss Robertson says or thinks is negligible. She is a political accident and in no way represents women, though she sits as the only woman in congress." ' Up to this tim no mere male politician has had the temerity to mix into the row.
