Glen Miller camping grounds since Sunday night, according to Ed Hollern, superintendent or parks. People as far east as Maine : and as far west as Washington spent the night In the Glen, Sunday and Monday night. Several very complimentary reports were received by the Dark superintendent from many of the tourists. Mr. A. B. Meyers, of Kansas City, stated that he had heard of the Glen Miller camping grounds while visiting In Maine. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Ball, traveling from Colorado to New York, stated that It was the only green camping grounds they had been on since leaving Colorado and that the spring water in the Glen was the best water they had ever tasted. A. L. Ball also stated that the camping grounds and roads of Indiana were the best that they had seen thus far. R. C. Shelton stated that he had Washington, D. C. R. M. Floods of Decatur. 111., said that Richmond should be congratulated on its camping grounds. The third man sought appeared at the rooming house last Saturday and ' representing himself as an insurance - company employe. Inquired into Mrs De Brito's life history. Later the same day, he visited the girl's office, and is said to have threatened her. Mrs. Edward Weiler, with whom Mrs. - De Brito lived, 'started police on the ," search for a letter from the magazine I editor. ; Two weeks ago, she said, the girl read an article in a North Dakota ; magazine, advocating tar and feathers ; as punishment in certain cases. She wrote a letter to Governor Frazer pro- " testing, and asking why the magazine was not suppressed. A letter of acknowledgment from the governor's ' secretary which Mrs. De Brito showed. to Mrs. Weiler, said her complaint 1 had been sent to the editor. Last Fri- ; day Mrs. Weiler, told police, the girl received a letter from the editor and appeared much upet. Saturday when she came home and told of the man who threatened her at - the office, and learned that a man of - ihe same description had appeared at her home, she appeared on the verge " of collapse, Mrs. Weiler said. Mrs. De Brito was married at the . age of 16 to Claude De Brito, a wealthy Brazilian in Cleveland, 0. according ; 1o her mother, Mrs. Mary Fornan. They later were divorced. 5,735,000 Persons Idle, Sec. Davis Estimates WASHINGTON, Aug. 16. Best estimates available show that 5,735,000 persons are out of employment in the United States, Secretary of Labor Davis reported to the senate today, in response to a resolution calling for figures. STATE TROOPS WATCH FOR LATEST ATTEMPT TO IMPORT WHISKY DETROIT, Aug. 16 Michigan state troopers today were watching for a carload of Canadian rye whisky reported to have reached Windsor from eastern Canada for shipment into the unuea states across Detroit river. No trace of the reported shipment had been found on this side of the river today. State officers redoubled their efforts to stop the flow of liquor early today when they made numerous raids in Detroit's suburbs, seizing beer and whisky and placing several men under arrest. John Corrigan. Sr.. and John Corrigan, Jr., proprietors of a near beer saloon in Wyandotte, and their bartender, John O'Donnell, were among those arrested. A quantity of beer and whisky i3 said to have been confiscated in the Corrigan place. The three men were held without bail today. State officers today began a check of reports that a large part of the liquor reported as being brought across the river was finding its way to Toledo and other cities by automobile over the Dixie highway. It was announced today that automobiles were to be stopped and searched along the highway. Windsor breweries yesterday reported the largest demand for their product in some time. A report was circulated in the border city that the brewers were contemplating enlargement of their output. RICHMOND TO SHOW WARM HOSPITALITY TO MICHIGAN PARTY All the arrangements for the reception and entertainment of the 800 Michigan farmers who will visit Rich mond next Sunday have been completed by the committee in charge, it was announced Tuesday. The farmers will camp in Glen Miller park during their stay here. Arrangements have been made to have Boy Scouts guard the camp of the motorists while they are attending local churches or the chautauqua. Perry Wilson, scout master, stated that- his boys would be on "hand to take in charge the camp. An address of welcome will be given the Farmers' auto party by Will Reller. Walker Land and representatives from the Rotary, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, South Side Improvement association, city officials. Women's clubs and other civic organizations that ar working to make the tourists' visit to this city a long remembered one. . Timothy Nicholson will have charge of a meeting at the East Main street Friends church. Many of the farmers have expressed a desire to attend a Friends' meeting. Others will attend the chautauqua. A large picture of the party will be taken Monday morning in front of the gate at Glen Miller park, Ed Hollarn, park superintendent states. This will take place immediately preceding their departure from the city. The tourists party left Battle Creek Aug. 6. They have been through the east. They attended the meeting of the Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan Farmer's Granges, which is meeting at Pittsburgh this week. 'One hundred and ninety-five automobiles are in the party, according to reports. TO INDICT 50 MORE IN BUILDING INQUIRY CHICAGO, Aug. 16 Fifty more in dictments in the federal grand jur.v investigation of illegal building m,v terial combinations were promised today by Robert E. Milroy, assistant district attorney in charge of the federal investigation of building conditions, These indictments ,if returned will make more than 200 in connection with the probe. Stone and glass branches of the industry are to be investigated, Mr. Milroy said, and asserted that manufacturers, contrac tors and union officials would be in volved.
