IS MADE AN EAGLE

MUNGIE MAN KILLED BY 3 HIGHWAYMEN ON COUNTRY ROAD MUNCIE, Ind... Aug. .15 Irvin- Parrish. 37 years old. whoBe home address is said to be Fort Wayne, Ind., was shot and wounded fatally by three masked highwaymen while motoring with Miss Lavaughn Cunningham, 2d years old. a local milliner, two miles west of Muncie, shortly before midnight Saturday. He was brought to a local hospital, where he died early Sunday. . .. In a statement made before his death, Parrish said three man approached his automobile at a cross road and ordered him to throw up his hands. Thinking the affair a joke, he refused to obey and the highwaymen opened fire. Detectives Baffled With only a meager description of the assailants to serve as a foundation for their investigation, detectives and others conducting an inquiry into the murder admitted they are as much at sea as they were when the first report of the shooting was received. Internal hemorrhages, resulting from bullet wounds, caused death, according to physicians' statements. His body is being held at a . local morgue awaiting word from relatives. A niece lives at Cleveland and authorities were advised that his divorced wife is now a resident of Indianapolis. Miss Cunningham,' who was with Mr. Parrish at the time of the shooting and who made a lengthy statement to detectives, was again subjected to a severe grilling by Coroner Downing in the conduct of his inquiry. Miss Cunningham was released after the inquest. Authorities, however, are not to be satisfied with all statements and they are conducting their investigation on a theory that Mr. Parrish was not the victim of highwaymen. Describes Attack In her statement Miss Cunningham said she and Mr. Parrish were driving on a country road, southwest of Muncie, when she discovered an auto following them. She told -Mr. Parrish and he drove their automobile to the side of the road to permit the other machine to pass. After the machine had passed, Miss Cunningham said, she and Mr, Parrish continued to park their automobile and about 30 minutes later three men appeared. One came to her side and flashed an electric light in her face while the other two went to the other side of the car. Mr. Parrish alighted from the machine and . started towards them. He had gene only a short distance when two shots were fired and he fell. . Attending physicians are at a. loss to know the cause of . a mysterious wound Inflicted in Mr.. Parrish's abdomen. It was first thought that he had been shot, three times and the wound in the abdomen was treated as a bullet wound. However, it was found after death that the" wound was not caused by a bullet The wounds which caused death were inflicted in the left and right chest, the left lung having been penetrated by one bullet. Decker Injured Sunday When Machine Overturns W. R. Pecker. 21 Ft. Wayne avenue, was slightly injured Sunday evening when the automobile he was driving turned over, about' five miles south of Winchester. - - - c .-. Mr. Decker said that . he tried to pass a machine driven by a man giving the name of Fred Snyder, a fanner near Williamsburg. ; The body of the machine was considerably -damaged. . - -.i., . November has -the reputation- of being a fatal month to singers and musicians. Jenny Lind, Mendelssohn, Rubinstein and many others died In November.
