FOUR U. S. STUDENTS WILL TEACH FRENCH BOYS SCOUf PLANS

(By Asjtoclatad Pres PARIS, Aug. 5. After 14 days labor as regular seamen on the United States shipping board freighter McKeesport.' four American college

students have arrived here to assist

in the instruction at boy scout camps

which the American Committee for Devastated France, in conjunction with the three French organizations, will '. hold this summer for about 1,000

French men and boys. The four, volunteered their services end who worked their way across the ocean are Barrie Rich, of Yale, and Paul North, Jack Danforth, and J. Woods, all juniors at Princeton. "I am sure we could all qualify as first-class painters and deck scrubbers after serving that two weeks apprenticeship on the McKeesport," said Barrie Rich, "We four were the only seamen on the ship who could understand English and as the officers couldn't speak any of the foreign languages which the other seamen understood, they concentrated all their orders on us. "We scrubbed and painted from dawn until funset and I guess we about painted the whole ship. At the end of the trip the captain gave us each one cent in American money as a reward for our good work. We all intend to frame it." Others to Follow. The men who have just arrived are part of a contingent of 16 Americans who will assist in the direction of the two summer scout camps which Lorne W. Barclay, National Director of Education of Boy Scouts in the United States, has come to France -to establish, at the invitation of the French "" government. They will teach swimming, first aid, tree study and Amer

ican scout games to the French boy scouts. The two camps now open at La Croix St. Ouen, near Compiegne (Oise) and at Corey (Aisne) are the largest ever

held in France and will continue until September 6. Under .the direction of Dr. D'Eliscu of Temple University, Philadelphia a model swimming pool has been formed at La Croix St. Ouen. - About 500 boys from- villages in the devastated area are being sent to the

to make the play a success. . The story is one that is sure to please. MURRETTE. An unusual departure in plot construction is one of the features of Eugene O'Brieji's new Selznick pic

MURRAY. "The Scarab Ring," which Is being shown at the Murray theatre, is a strong society play which contains an element of mystery and suspense, and

is based upon the popular novel by Harriet Gaylord entitled "The Desperate Heritage." The scenes are all laid in homes of wealth or public buildings, and Miss Joyce appears as a ypung woman, brought up in luxury, a type of girl in. which she has achieved the greatest success. The role in "The Scarab Ring" is different from anything previously attempted by tl star, and places her in a new light upon the screen. Edward Jose, who has directed several successes for Miss Joyce, and who. was at one time director for Sarah Bernhardt, had charge of the production. Joe King, a well known leading man, plays opposite the star and a cast of well known players, including such names as Maude Malcom, E. Phillips, Fuller Mellish, Claude King, Jack Hopkins and Armand Cortez, does its part

It is the customary thing to have a

screen hero dangle his heart at the feet' of a superior being in the form of the feminine pursued, but in this

new production Mr. O'Brien, as Melville Marley, a despondent and discouraged chap, finds himself enchanted by no less a person than a more respondent stenographer, penniless

and without funds. Winifrel Wostover is seen as Lois Wilday, whom adverse fortune has thrown mercilessly upon the world. Such a girl is seldom known as the heroine of a popular story, but Lois, unfortunate as she is. meets Marlay, who is even in worse circumstances, and together they find their inspiration and ultimate happiness in each other. MURRAY VAUDEVILLE Demure little Dolly Wilson is the beauty spot of the bill. She wears at

least one stunning costume, and is for the most part quite coquettish. Ben Marks, who worKs with Dolly, is a

specimen of that variety that does things not by reason but by impulse. He parts his hair in the middle and has a hint of a rosy cheek. Together they are the spice of the offerings silly but comic, accomplishing their purpose. Three young men dressed as clowns comprise the best tumbling and balancing act that has graced the last act of any local bills for many weeks. Glowing appreciation by the audience finds relief in many outbursts of applause. A great, engagement will be welcomed Alexander Melford and company. . Ray Conlin and "Sparks,", entertain by verbal intercourse freely meted. The act is a ventriloquist mftnber. Ray is a sleek individual, as are most of his calling, and in addition wears

a most persuasive smile. ' There are numerous laughs in the offering. - The charm and grace expected from artstic dancers seemed lost somewhere Thursday when Belle and Benson tried the trick. Best of teir numbers was the interpretive offering which opens their act. Without minimizing the possibilities of the couple, fhere seemed to be a lack of rythmic action in their Thursday matinee performance. , Alice Joyce in "The Scarab Ring," is the film feature. Another Circus Coming Here Week From Today Already the flaring posters of the Al G. Barnes big . 4-ring Wild Animal Circus have announced the coming of that favorite organization to Richmond on Friday, Aug. 12, and consequently there is great rejoicing in juvenile circles, and among older persons as well, for., the lure of the circus never diminishes with age.

Now comes Frank Cassidy, the Barnes press agent, with new and al

luring stories of the wonders which have been added to the circus since its

last appearance in this city. According to Mr. Cassidy there is little of the always popular program left this year. During the three months the show

spent in winter quarters at Culver

City, the entire 6taff of trainers was

busily engaged in rehearsing the educated animals in new acts. This means that there are many surprises

in store for circug-goers this season.
