Attorney Hayward that they had caused a film of the fight to be brought across the . state line from New Jersey. Mr. Hayward, who summoned -the pair for examination in connection with an advertised attempt to show the movie in New York, said
after a conference with them, that they had asserted that they believed transportation of the film was no violation of the federal law, and that1 any offense there might be would consist of public exhibition of it. Rickard and Quimby. declined to make any statement on leaving Mr. Hayward's office, saying the prosecutor would tell the newspaper men all about their conference.

Their testimony was given with the jury absent from the room pending a decision from Judge Hugo Friend, as to whether the confessions are admissible as evidence In the case. The defense maintained the confessions were involuntary. Clcotte and Jackson admitted they
had signed something in the grand jury rooms, but did not know whether it was' an immunity waiver. Cicotte said he had broken down and cried while Judge McDonald heard his story, and much of what he did on that day was simply a hazy memory Under cross examination he replied to many Questions, "Don't remember."

The papers were last seen, so far as can be learned, about three" days before Hoyne's term ended when Hoyne' s secretary Kenny, clashed with H. L. Replogle, assistant state's attorney, in charge of the investigation, after Kenny had demanded that the grand jury

The papers are said to have ap
peared in New York during the hear
ing of the extradition proceedings against Abe Attell who has been nam-
a ringleader in the alleged plot.
An attorney for Attell, waving some papers in court, declared "I have here the full proceedings of the Cook county grand jury," it was said. Other reports being Investigated by the state's attorney include one that the New York gamblers who is said to have purchased the stolen evidence later, offered to sell it to a New York newspaper, when he found there were
no particularly damaging references
to himself.
The newspaper declined to buy and efforts of the disappointed gambler to
obtain his $10,000 have so far been un
successful. State's Attorney Crowe, is
preparing to lay evidence in connec
tion with the theft of the records before the grand Jury.
