PURDUE RECOMMENDS DOLAN RE-ELECTION; WORK IS SUCCESSFUL
Reappointment of J. L. Dolan as county agricultural agent by a unanimous vote Is probable as a result of the
special session of the county board of education which has been called for 10 o'clock Monday. July 18. Dolan's reappointment has been recommended by Purdue, and farmers of the county have expressed thejr satisfaction with his work and asked for his continuanace in the position. His present term ends in August. At present Mr. Dolan, with his bride, is at Lafayette taking the twoday course of Instruction in poultry culling in preparation for culling demonstrations this autum. Almost every township in the county wishes
to put on such a demonstration. It
has been shown that in many farm
flocks from a third to as much as aj
half of the whole flock are non-producers, and costs can be reduced without reducing production, by culling them out. Pig Club Work. Coming to the county late last summer, Dolan was occupied with the completion of last year's pig club, which probably was the most important single project of his first few month's work. Qo-operation with the Richmond business men in putting on a corn
show during the winter, and attendance, speaking," corn" Judging, and other activities at each of the farmers Institutes held in other cities of the county took some time of the agricultural agent's office during the winter months. Besides this, he has had the regular routine of answering requests for information and filling all other demands which come to the office. Work Successful. .
Early in spring, work was started looking to formation of pig clubs and corn clubs for this summer, with such success that 60 boys and girls signed
up for the pig club.lwhile many others entered corn club work. Of the men also, 15 were enrolled In the five-acre state corn contest. j - With the co-operation of the agricultural agent's office, the Farm Bureau and the Wayne County Corn Growers' association expect to Install a treating plant to eliminate smut from seed wheat this fall, the necessiJy for such work having been demonstrated last spring. . Mr. Dolan has been of assistance in the formation of live stock breeding associations and other farmers' or
ganizations which are making their influence felt in the agricultural industry of Wayne county. Schools in farm accounting form another activity of the agent's office.
