HOT WEATHER TIPS COMPILED CY LOCAL
PHYSICIAN FRIDAY!
Are you hot? Do you want to keep cool? Can you imagine two more foolish questions than those above? If you haven't been disgusted by them the hot -weather hints given by a local physician may help you. But first, let's see what it is that makes us hot. Now here's a stinger. Most of us do just the things that we should not do. That's tough, isn't it? That makes it necessary to start off with a few don'ts but we'll end up with the helpful stuff. First, don't expose yourself to the hot rays of the sua if you have been used to working in an office and are as soft as a racehorse that has been on pasture for two years. That i3, don't expose yourself too suddenly. Take it gradually. If you want to go in for outdoor sports or exercises stay out only a short time the first trip out and increase the length of the time that you are out as you become accustomed to the heat and the exercise. If you play a hard game of ball, go on a long fishing trip or perform other exercise be sure that you do not overestimate your strength. Avoid Iced Drinks Second, do not drink too much Ice water. Be careful of iced drinks. Third, do not overheat. Fourth, eat nothing but plain food. Fifth, be sure that the fruits that you eat are thoroughly well ripened or cooked. Sixth, eat little or no meats and potatoes. When you have fulfilled these six commandments, you will be feeling pretty good. All that is necessary then to secure real comfort will be to start on the things to do. First, drink plenty of water. Naturally you want the water cool. The best stunt is to put the water In a bottle and place it in a refrigerator to keep it cool, instead of dissolving the ice in the water. In that way you avoid the sudden chill of the iced water. Second, get plenty of sleep. Third, dress cooly. Fourth, drink milk. Fifth, bathe frequently in warm water, following bath with cold
sponge.

BRICK WORK FINISHED ON WEST SIDE HIGH
The David Worth Dennis junior high school will be ready for occupancy by Feb. 1, 1922, according to the superintendent in charge of the work. Laying of the cornerstone of the school was celebrated Friday, May 27. Practically all of the brick work in the construction has been completed, and with one exception the building i3 now at the heighth planned. . This exception is the academic section which is to be two stories. But one of the stories has been competed. Roofing of the gymnasium and adjoining rooms has been started. All is ready for putting on the roof to the auditorium, the north wing of the school. The superintendent in charge said Friday that he expected the second story of the academic division to be finished by about Sept. 1, thi3 year. An idea of how the finished product will look can be gained now. Even though only the first story of the academic section has been erected, several columns at the entrance have been placed. It is also apparent that the windows in the auditorium section will be artisticly set. Work in all parts of the building i3 progressing rapidly and steadily.

Indiana Fruit Crop Falls to 10 Per Cent of Normal SOUTH BEND. Ind., July 8. "Don't ask us about fruit prospects; we have none," is the substance of replies received by H. H. Swaim, secretary of the Indiana Horticultural Society, from orchardists throughout Indiana.
Mr. Swaim said that Indiana raisers of apples and other tree fruits may regard themselves as fortunate if they have a 10 per cent yield. Similar conditions prevail in Ohio, Illinois and Missouri, but that In Michigan prospects indicate a 23 per cent crop. New England states will yield still better, possibly 50 per cent.
Francis EL Janes. Francis R. Jones is the new director general of the U. S. employment service, succeeding; John B, Densmore.
