VIGOROUS CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHINCH BUGS STARTS WITH NEW OIL
his red hair to a trip which his father f theme and is a most ideal vtlucle
Arrival of tha 30 barrels of barrier oil that had been ordered, and its immediate distribution over the county Monday morning, enabled the campaign agains the chinch bugs to proceed in full strength.
By the use of this oil, the farmerb of Wayne county will lay barrier lines that -will stop further Invasion of the fields, and make it possible to kill the prr eater proportion of the bugs. By thus preventing many of the bugs from maturing and raising a second brood, much damage to the corn will be avoided later. A tour of the county Sunday in company with John J. Davis, head oi the department of entomology of Purdue and author of tho latest bulletin on the insect in Indiana, reveals the
fact that Wayne is among the -worst infested counties of the state, although there are a few counties about Fort Wayne which still have greater numbers. The counties in which the situation is a3 bad or worse than in
Wayne, are: Sullivan, Knox, Vigo Clay. Green Fountain, Tippecanoe
Miami, Wabash, Whitley, Warren, Allen, Blackford, Randolph, with some in Jay and Henry, though not as bad
as in Wayne.
According to latest advices, bugs
have been found in large numbers in Darts of Favette county also, and are
being fought there, the farm bureau having organized for the campaign as
was done in Wayne. Storm Destroys Insects
A severe storm in the southwestern nart of the county Monday afternoon
undoubtedly destroyed many of the . incoMi oKnoriallv thfi smaller ones.
7 but was a disadvantage in that it also
made impracticable the dust barriers with which farmers in that region and about Straushn have been fighting the
bugs. Oil lines are now the only ef fective barriers in that territory. On the occasion of bis visit Sunday
Prof. Davis emphasized the fact that weather conditions cannot safely be relied unon. either in summer or in
winter, to control the bugs, and that
they must be destroyed whenever pos sible.
In using the sprays, Davis recommended the Black Leaf 40 as being harmless to the plant, while kerosene emulsion will burn the corn unless thoroughly mixed. When soap is mixed with the Black Leaf 40, the mixture will kill all the bugs, the soap insuring that the solution will penetrate beneath the leaves and get tho bugs under there. Black Leaf 40 is mixed with water at the rate of two tablespoons with three and a half gallons of water, and a cubic inch of soap is added for each gallon of water. Effective Barrier. An effective dust barrier was observed south of Straughn, Sunday, on the farm of R, E. Bradway, operate.! by his son-in-law, R. B. Henley. Mr. Henley for several days past has maintained the barrier by dragging a log in the furrow which is about eight to
10 inches deep. Once or twice arouna in the morning serves to renew the I dust mulch, then when the bugs begin moving about 11 o'clock, the dragging is started again and maintained until about 3 or 5 o'clock, only an occasional lone chinch bug being able to cross it. It will be necessary to keep watching for the bugs for at least 10 days yet. according to Mr. Davis, as more

Some damage can be expected to corn yields this fall, but the severity depends upon the success various communities have in killing this first brood of the bugs. In "The Mad Marriage," Truman Van Dyke has the interesting role of Jerry Paxton. a young artist of Greenwich Village who is so desperately

While replete with the necessary ingredients that assure the success of screen plays it also has to do with a subject that to date has never before been touched upon admittedly a rarity in this age of exceptional pro

HOW TO USE IT
As a General Shampoo Wet hair thoroughly, then pour one tablcspoonful of Shampoo on head and massage vigorously, loosening all dirt and dandruff. Rinse well, then apply another tablcspoonful of Shampoo, rub well and rinse thoroughly, first in hot, then in cool water. Only two applications are necessary, and to use more than a tablcspoonful to an application is to waste the Shampoo.'
To Bring Out the Glint- Not Changing the Color Wet the hair thoroughly. Pour one tablcspoonful of Shampoo on hair, massage vigorously, loosening all dirt and dandruff. Rinse well. Squeeze water from hair, so it will not drip. Then apply another tablcspoonful of Shampoo and distribute evenly. Do not rub. Do not apply more water, but allow Shampoo to remain on hair for 3 to IS minutes, then apply water, massage and rinse thoroughly. This will not color the hair but will give that "golden glint" so much desired.
To Darken Gray Hair and Bring the True Henna Tone Wet the hair thoroughly. Put about one tablespoonful of Shampoo directly on the hair. Rub vigorously into a lather, then rinse the soap out of the hair and rub hair with dry towel so water does not drip from hair, then apply another tablcspoonful of Shampoo directly on the hair and distribute evenly. DO NOT RUB, DO NOT APPLY MORE WATER, but allow Shampoo to remain on hair 1 5 to 30 minutes, then apply more water, rub into a lather and rinse well.
