HARDING SENDS LIST OF NOMINATIONS TO SENATE FOR APPROVAL

WASHINGTON. June 24. Nominations for appointment to several Important posts were sent to the senate late Thursday by President HardingJohn H. Bartlett, of Portsmouth, N. H.. ex-governor of that state, was nominated to be a member of the civil service commission to succeed Martin A. Morrison, chairman of the board, and ex-representative to Congress from the Ninth Indiana district, whose resignation was accepted today by the president. William Burgess, a manufacturer of Morris Heights. Pa., was named for the remaining post on the tariff ommis3ion. Other nominations were those of Associate Justice Marion DeVries of the Court of Customs Appeals to be presiding judge of that court, and William S. Chapman,

of Cincinnati, O., to be clerk of the

United States court, for China. The

nomination of Edward M. Morgan for

postmaster of New York City was confirmed by the senate. Bartlett Ex-Governor Mr. Bartlett. who served as governor of New Hampshire from 1919 to 1921, was educated at Dartmouth college and practiced law for many years in Portsmouth.

Mr. Morrison was appointed by President Wilson in 1919 as a member of the comission and previously had served as representative in the Sixtyfirst and Sixty-fourth congresses from the Ninth district of Indiana. His
