-ADDITIONAL FIELDS DISCOVERED INFESTED WITH CHINCH BUGS
THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM AND SUN-TELEGRAM, RICHMOND, IND., FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 1921.

Other cases of infestation
! chinch bugs were discovered Thursday as a result of investigation i prompted by accounts in Wednesday's ; papers of the first field to suffer. I The worst case found Thursday was j that on the farm of Roy Roberts, on j the Middleboro pike northeast of Rich- j mond. Mr. Roberts has a rye field from which chinch bugs are just be- j ginning to migrate to a corn field near i by. He first noticed the bugs Thurs-I day after reading the accounts in the J paper, and immediately stopped field work and telephoned J. L. Dolan, county agent. Mr. Dolan visited the '
farm in the afternoon, identified the pest and prescribed the remedywhich Mr. Roberts at once put into operation. Archibald Brooks, of Green township, also reports the presence of the bug on his farm, but in an isolated position where it can do little damage. They are also very few in number, as the severe storm on Sunday. June 19, killed many. Centered In Perry rewstation in Wayne county two years ago centered in Perry township and instances of infestation have since been reported from nearby territory. As a consequence, farmers in that neighborhood are watching closely for the bugs this year. Surrounding counties, so far as can be discovered, have no unusual damage from the chinch bug, and so far it has been found in threatening numbers in only two places in Wayne. Other counties of Indiana, however, report serious damage from the pest, as the open winter, and the succeeding dry weather have been unusually favorable to the insects. Fayette county, however, is Faid to have been free at all times, nor have the counties of Randolph, Henry, Union and of Preble and Darke in Ohio, reported serious chinch bug damage. The chinch bus Is. very small, less than an eighth of an inch in length, and black, with a white bar across the back. The young are red or pink.
