URGES U. S. SUPPORT FOR OPIUM REPORT TO ELIMINATE EVIL
(By Associated Press) WASHINGTON, June 23. Support for recommendations in the report of the commission on the opium traffic of the league of nations has been urged in conferences here with government officials and others by .Mrs. Hamilton Wright, one of the experts attached to the commission. Mrs. Wright, who recently arrived here from Geneva, assisted in the preparation of a report which is to be submitted within a few days to the council of the league at its sessions in Geneva. Already, it is understood, many messages have been dispatched by American organizations to Geneva urging favorable action on the recommendations as the only means of preventing the revival of the opium traffic. Rumored Provisions While the report itself has not yet been made public it is understood that it includes two principal recommendations.
First, the council is requested to
seek permission from the central government of China, for in that country consuls of the nations members of the
league to address themselves directly to the leaders of the Chinese mili
tary forces in their respective locali
ties urging them to refrain from the
cultivation of the poppy.
Second, the council is requested to appoint a special commission of in
quiry to personally visit the provinces of China where the poppy is grown
to ascertain the extent or tne cuiuva
tion and the methods of marketing
the prohibited drug.

MURRAY. Glen Masters had worshiped and obeyed Indiana Stillwater in everything since childhood and many times had pleaded with her to marry him. The girl was fond of him as a companion and friend, but could not feel about him as he did about her. She ffit that the man to make her happy
would be one who would dominate her
and never yield to her foolish w turns. The Rt. Hon. Thurston Ralph. Vis-
. count Canning, made an altogether
different impression upon Indiana. Here was a man, she decided, who could be depended upon to risk angering her for her own good, and would
discourage foolish conduct. In agreein in hoenme Thurston's wife, she
made him promise never to permit her to behave in a foolish fashion. As Thurston's wife, she put his l iomise to a harder test than he had ever looked forward to, but he kept it. In the end Indiana told him: "I
knew you would keep your promise, but I didn't think you would keep it
so hard." The situation arises in "Her Lord and Master," an intensely interesting c omedy drama by Martha Morton, visualized as an Alice Joyce Vitagraph production. It will be shown at he Murray theater Thursday. The production was directed by Edward Jose, who has won world-wide fame as a director for the screen and the spoken stage as well, t MURRETTE. tre proved to be one of the most pleasing screen productions of the season. Like Mr. O'Brien's recent Uhotoplay success, "The Wonderful Chance," this new drama is a crook play that affords the star a role admirably suited to his talents. The story treats with the exploits of a gentlemanly crook who plies his trade for the sake of adventure. While impersonating a wealthy society scion The "Magnet" (Eugene O'Brien) becomes involved in a series of adventures that are both novel and exciting. In addition there is a mystery element and a touching love theme that takes a most unusual tft ist at the end. WASHINGTON. Action depicting the work of the American boys in France, including
. the slow, irresistible progress of the
tanks, the creeping barrage used to such great effect by the American gunners, and other features developed during the world war are strikingly shown by the army signal corps film
which, makes a part of the bill at the Washington theatre. The film ends its run Thursday. Life in the front line trenches, and life with the big guns supporting the infantry, is securely is accurately shown by the film. The barbed wire entanglements between the two op posing trenches, lighted up at night by the glare of rockets and many colored signals, prove an effective contrast to the bare expanses of shell-
