CONVICTED OF LIQUOR VIOLATION, FARMER HELD IN GREENVILLE GREENVILLE. June 3. After failure to pay fines aggregating more than $1,500, assessed after he had ; plead guilty to violations of the Crabbe Act, August Richter. Osgood 'farmer, was brought to this city and lodged in the county jail. Richter was caught in the net spread by Prohibition Agent Probst last week, and two stills were found on his farm, together with a keg of mash. Upon being brought before a magistrate, the man was fined over $1,500. According to officials, he will be left in the county jail until his fines are worked out at 75 cents a day. At that rate he will be there for about 2,000 days. Delay Club Work Dates. Owing to the fact that many prospective entrants could not get in on account of farm work, J. A. Cotterel, leader of the boys' and girls' pig club work in Darke county, has announced that entries for the pig feeding contests will be received until June 15. Four different breeds of pigs are available for distribution to the entrants. Chester White. Duroc Jersey, Poland China (Big Type) and Spotted Poland China clubs will be conducted, as well as a free for all contest. Greenville Gets Cannon. John L. Cable, congressman for this district, has notified Charles Slade, commander of the local American Legion post, that a German cannon, captured by the A. E. F. in France, will be shipped to Greenville as soon as distribution is made, as a war trophy. The cannon, according to Mr. Cable, will probably be one captured by the thirty-seventh division, in which a great number of Darke County boys served. Cost of transportation is to be borne by the government, and cost of erection by the city. A site of the location of the trophy has not yet been decided upon. McWhinney Seriously III. Matt McWhinney, one of this city's most prominent older citizens, suffered a stroke of paralysis at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Kimmel, Central avenue, recently, and his condition is regarded as very serious by attending physicians. Mr. McWhinney. who was very prominent in Masonic circles both in Greenville and Dayton, had announced himself as candidate for mayor on the Republican ticket at the primaries to be held next August. Sheriff Protects Husband. A call for help was received by Sheriff Wagner late Tuesday night from Earl Peae, residing near Savona. Pease stated that his wife had returned from a continued absence and had started to make a general clean-up by first ousting himself and his housekeeper. Mrs. Pease left their home recently after a domestic fracas, and Pease secured a housekeeper and was living comfortably, he states. He was told that nothing could be done for him until an affidavit was filed. Curtis Asks Divorce. Samuel Curtis has filed petition in common pleas court for divorce against his wife. Laura 13. Curtis, whom he alleges has been away from their home without cause for more than five years. He asks for divorce, and that his wife not be granted any interest in his farm or personal property. The Curtis' were married at West Milton in 1913, and have no children.
