DETAILED SURVEY OF $ INDIANA SCHOOLS IS PLANNED BY M'GRAY
(Rv Associated Prss I INDIANAPOLIS. May 6. Indiana's J
school system is to 1- diagnosed this year to learn what is the trouble with it. Everything that goes to make up the system in the state Is to be investigated with a view to raising th educational standard of Indiana among other states. No longer does Indiana rank among the leaders in education and the problem Is to find what is the trouble and what may be done to improve condii tions. Facing this situation the last stUe legislature authorized ' the appointment by Governor McCray of a reboot survey commission, the personnel of which will soon be announced ly the governor. May Get Experts. As the forerunner to th selection of the commission, which the governor plans will direct the survey rather than do the actual work, Governor McCray has written to the Russell Sage Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Carnegie Institute to learn on what conditions experts may be sent to Indiana to make the diagnosis. Replies have not yet been received but the governor's plans call for a survey being made by experts in on way connected with the Indiana educational system. His program' has been indorsed and advocated by some educational leaders in the state. In short the survey is expected to provide the information that will give the Indiana school authorities the basis for placing the Indiana schools as the leaders of the country, the accomplishment of which ' was urged by the governor in his first 5 message to the state legislature.
