UNION CITY STIRRED BY RECENT HOLDUP;

MAY START CLEANUP GREENVILLE, April 25. Much controversy has been aroused In the village of Union City 6ince the holdup of a gambling house on the Ohio side a week ago, as to whether or not the three bandits, who are at present in the Muncie jail, should be brought back to this state for trial. The gambling fraternity have been strongly in favor of dropping the matter entirely, as investigations recently conducted have thrown too much ight ! on their activities! Under pressure from citizens who desire to clean up the village, Marshal Maloon and Mayor Bolen have filed a request with Prosecuting Attorney 4 Hoel, of this city, for extradition papers, which are necessary before the three hold-up men can be brought here for trial. Marshal Maloon also issued a statement to the effect that gambling was not confined to the Ohio side of the village, but was to be ; found on the Indiana side as well. Following this statement, it is said the council of the Indiana side has or

dered an investigation. Farmer Adjudged Insane. Lunacy proceedings, were filed In probate court here yesterday morning against Lewis Edwards, 65, wellknown Washington township farmer and horse trader, residing a mile east of Hillgrove, after he suddenly went insane. The man was brought to this city, and an examination conducted by three physicians, at which time he was ordered to be committed to the state hospital at Payton. He was lok'.n tfcero yesterday afternoon. Kress Divorce Plea. Cora Kress, in a uit. for divorce tied against John M. Kress, in common picas court1 here, alleges that since their marriage a little over a

year ago her husband has been guilty or gross neglect of duty, extreme cruelty, and has struck, cursed and abused her. She asks for absolute divorce, alimony, and an apportionment of their property. Lampy Trial Progresses. Testimony for the state In the murder trial of John Lampy, Mercer oountv farmer, charged with shooting George DeCamp. former Greenviil resident, is finished, and examination of witnesses for the defense has started. Lampy states that he had harbored a conlinual fear of DeCamp. He admits the shooting, but states that ihe act was one of self-defense. A

number of witnesses from this city were called upon to testify yesterday as character witnesses. Tortlett Sued for Divorce. Petition was filed in common pleas court in this city recently by Eva Tortlett, against her husband. Thomas Tortlett, prayins: for divorce. Mrs. srtlett alleges that they have been married since 1917, and her fcusband ?as consistently refused to contribute :o her support. She hasconquent!y oeen forced to earn her own living

ODD FELLOWS ENJOY TRIP TO GREENSBURO Fifty-seven members of Whitewater lodge of Odd Fellows were guests of Decatur lodge at Greensburgf Jnd., on

Saturday night and Sunday, the trip being made in automobiles. The de

gree team of Whitewater lodge conferred the first degree on a class of

candidates Saturday night in the presence of nearly 300 visiting members. The Indiana Odd Fellows' home, which is located a half mile, east of Greensburg, wiw visited by the Richmond delegation Sunday morning. Following an inspection of the institution on hour's concert was given by the orchestra of Whltwater lodge tor the members of the home. The trip was one of the most enjoyable that Whitewater lodge members have ever experienced.

Lake Freight Business ' Discouraging This. Year (By Associated Prn) DETROIT. April 25. The outlook, for lake freight business Is more discouraging this spring than in many years, according to William Livingstone, president of the Lake Carriers' association. Not more than 50 per cent of the association's tonnage would be put into operation this year unless a marked Improvement is shown, he added. Several companies
