WILL BACK CRAWFORD AS FARM EXECUTIVE Recommendation of Earl Crawford, of Milton, as new secretary of the Indiana federation of farmers associations in place of Maurice Douglas recently appointed by Governor McCray to the public utilities commission, and full support for Crawford by the Wayne farm bureau, were voted at a meeting of the county executive committee, held in the courthouse Saturday afternoon. Crawford has already been selected on the executive committee of the state federation in Douglass' place and Wayne county as well as farmers of other nearby counties are anxious to see him in the secretaryship also. An appropriation was voted by the
Wayne farm bureau committee for the support of the pig club and one and five acre club work in the county. The county agent presented the matter of formation of a corn breeders' association which has been requested by several corn men of Wayne county and a meeting will probably be called some time during the week to organize such an association. It was reported that two cars of corn had been contributed by Wayne county for foreign famine relief and that several townships in the west and northwest of the county had farmers who had manifested a desire to get in on the gift corn project also.

DANCE GIVEN IN '64 RECALLED BY CARD
MILTON. Ind., April 11. A small c-ard, two inches by three inches, giving the program of a "Grand Matinee" at Crane's Hall, December 28, 1864, is one of the possessions of Mrs. Elnora Campbell, of this place. Below the heading is the phrase: "on which occasion your company is respectfully solicited." The names of "managers" of the affair are given as follows:
Disabled Soldiers Condemn Separate Peace Movement Following are the resolutions adopted in Indianapolis at the last meeting of the Indianapolis Post, National Disabled Soldiers' League: Whereas, we offered our lives that the honor of the United States might be preserved and German kultur banished from the face of the earth, therefore be it. Resolved, That we, the members of the Indianapolis Post, National Disabled Soldiers' League, who have experienced the mighty scourge of war to the extent that many of us are crippled or disfigured for life, insist most earnestly that our sacrifice shall not be in vain and that the United States senate will no disgrace us by making a separate peace with Germany. Be it further Resolved, That Germany shall receive no milder terms than those dictated by the allied generals on i-mistice day at Spa., Belgium. Be it finally Resolved. That a copy of these resolutions be sent to President Harding, Charles E. Hughes, secretary of state; Henry Cabor Lodge, chairman of the foreign relations committee, and our two senators, Harry S. New and James E. Watson."
and the board is clearing up all legal points before taking definite action.
Appraisers reported there would be $700 damage to a brick barn, owned by John W. Mueller, providing the board widened the alley between south Seventeenth and Eighteenth streets, from Main to A. The amount named probably will be allowed. Dell Davis, city engineer, was instructed to draw up plans for a gravel road-bed and cement curb and gutter for Sherman street, one block, from Butler to heridn streets.
INK LYONS
Third Street Widening Deferred by City Board After consulting with Will Reller. city attorney, Monday the board of works continued the N. Third street widening hearing until next Thursday morning. Litigation has been threatened by interested property holders
(Continued from Page One) the conduct of the state's business that he cannot fully stand responsible for,. He, it is understood, expects to keep in close personal touch with the affairs of the state and if there is any weaknesses on the part of any of his so-called personal appointees he will soon find it out. , An example of the desire of the governor not to permit problems of the last administration to enter into the present regime was his action last week in appointing Elwood Haynes and Frank Heighway as members of the state board of education. It is well understood by those who have observed the work of the state board of education during the last four years, that all has not been harmonious and that the Graff-Hall-Williams faction has been a noticeable feature of the board. This lack of harmony in the board's business has led to some unpleasant publicity as for example, when the affairs of the board got into the last legislature and a commission was appointed to look into the manner in which text book contracts had been let. The contention in this instance was that postponement of the letting of contracts would have done
i no harm and might have resulted in a
saving of money. The failure of Governor McCray to appoint Mr. Williams and Mr Hall, was not haphazard on the part of the governor. It is said he has not been too busy during the last four years to observe what was going on in educational affairs, and in his inaugural
speech and in later addresses he had I spoken of the importance of keeping j the stale's schools to a high standard. The legislature was rather liberal in
j the matter of voting money for schools
and the governor it is said does not wish any discordant elements in the state board. Brings Praise. The appointment of Mr. Haynes has brought praise to the governor since the appointee is a big man in the industrial world and also is said to have advanced ideas in educatonal affairs. The only criticism probably that can be brought against the Heighway appointment, is that it looks like a response to the desires of what is known as the Lake county political crowd. However, Mr. .Heighway is known as a. capable school man, and it is said has done much for the improvement of
i the school system of Lake county. It
Is to be assumed that the governor has fully informed himself as to Mr. Heighway's qualifications and feels that in making the appointment he is running no chance of having the Lake county crowd attempt to dabW; in the affairs of the state board.
In connection with the talked-of failude io appoint Lawrence Lyons as director of the state highway commission t is being said in certain political circles in Richmond that Lyons may be groomed for the Republican state chairmanship It is said that there, are certain Republican leaders in the state who would like to see Lyons iu that position. Whether or not K. M . Wasmuth. the present Republican state chairman intends to retire voluntarily is not. known. Ordinarily when the state chairman of a political party has cserved through a successful campaign it is not customery to remove him. Mr. Wa.ii.uth has served ihrough two campaigns in which his party wa? victorious.

WHY DELAY COMFORT & HAPPINESS
A comfortable, attractively furnished home is the basis of a happy and successful career. When you consider that the money you invest in an automobile is practically wiped out in a short time through depreciation, besides putting you to heavy expenses for maintenance and repairs; when you consider the short life of shoes, clothing and other commodities, and when you consider that the right kind of furniture will give you an entire life of service and pleasure without any expense but the original investment, can there be any argument as to the wisdom of investing your money in good furniture?
