BRIDE FROM FRANCE OXFORD, O., March 15 Ambrose Wespiser. weathly retired, business man of this village, is home from a visit of several months with relatives in Alsace-Lorraine, hejnrprtsed his many friends by bringing ltn him a bride. Forty-one years ago, when Mr. wespiser came to this country, he was engaged to a young woman in Alsace. . A year later he sent for her to join hfcn in this country, but the illness of her mother prevented her leaving home; so the match was broken off. When Mr. Wespiser, a widower, ar- ' rived in France, he found the sweetheart of his youth a widow. Their youthful romance was renewed; she came with him to this country, and they were married last week at the ' home of his daughter, Mrs. Michael Ferrendo, in Youngstown. The trees will look nice until the rain washes the whiteness away. He had much better spend his time spraying his trees thoroughly with lime sulphur of the proper strength. They would not look so white when finished but there . would be fewer scale insects present to injure them.

At Washington Thursday Formerly appearing in "So Long, Letty" where she made a sensational success, Charlotte Greenwood will appear this season in "Linger Longer Letty", which comes to the Washington theater Thursday.

The Theatres

MURRETTE Kenneth Harlan, Constance Talmadge's leading man, who is appearing in "Mamma's Affair," appearing at the Murrette Theatre, Wednesday, has a happy faculty of hitting the nail on the head and expressing what is in other people's minds. Recently he was held up four times on the way to the studio and asked to

contribute to funds, which ranged from preventing the extinction of the "Butterflies of Borneo," to making up a purse for a former munition worker, who could not. find employment at his old salary and was too proud to work for anything less. All the other members of the cast had been similarly pestered for days. Harlan appeared to be in deep thought as the director was explaining the script to him. "What are you thinking about? You are not listening to what I'm saying," complained the director. "I'll . tell you." paid Harlan. "I'm figuring-out ways and means of starting a drive for funds 1o keep the middle classes out of the roorhouse." WASHINGTON. Suffs. or no sun's, you will have to hand it to the ladies and credit them with doing something worth while in giving us "Lingrer Longer Letty," which comes to the Washington theatre March 17, for Anna Nichols wrote the comedy and Charlotte Greenwood puts it over. Miss Greenwood, as Letty makes "Linger Longer Letty." which is a comedy with music, all that a comedy is said to be. Incited by her father to rebel, she starts a strike, comes out of the kitchen, engages a male dressmaker to attire her and makes an immediate hit with the young men who formerly were altogether too attentive to her sisters. Her co-conspirator In the plot to become beautiful is Jimmie, one of two brothers who have been paying court to her sister, Nancy. Jimmie is also angular and needs making over; so successful are Letty and Jimmie in their process of recrudescence that they fall in love with each other. Those who saw Miss Greenwood in "So Long Letty," will appreciate her in her present role, which offers more opportunity for her own particular style of comedy. She is screamingly funny, the looseness of her limbs and the way she dances, invariably convulses tiie audience. A big cast and beauty chorus sup

ports Miss Greenwood, including Rob

ert Higgins, Little Buly Oscar Figman,

Ida Stanhope, Olga Roller, Curtyne Englar, Muriel Cole, George Sweet and

Frances Benasten.

The Home Garden

Whitewashing fruit tree is not practiced as much as formerly. It used to be quite a common sight to see whole orchards with the tree trunks whitened up as high as the forks. The white showed off well, especially if the orchard was in sod. but about all that was ever gained, was the looks. The insects that do the most harm are located on the branches and it requires something stronger than plain lime and water to kill them. It is true, that some insects hiberate under the

rough bark on the tree trunks but

they are safe from the whitewash i of thinking, for all he is to get for it.

brush. A hoe to scrape off the rough bark from, the old trees will be more efficacious than the brush.

About the only benefit we ever heard of whitewashing fruit trees was that when applied to peach trees blossoming Is delayed for several days, often long enough to avoid winterkilling. Down in Missouri, where this fact was discovered, trees covered with whitewash bloomed from two to six days later than those not so treated. Such trees had fewer fruitless years . But in this case, the wasb is applied to the entire tree and not just to the trunks. The man who practices this is going

HAVE DARK HAIR

AND LOOK YOUNG Nobody Can Tell When You Darken Gray, Faded Hair With Sage Tea. Grandmother kept her hair beautifully darkened, glossy and attractive with a brew of Sage .Tea and Sulphur. Whenever her hair took on that dull, faded or streaked appearance, this simple mixture was applied with wonderful effect. By asking at any drug store for "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound," you will get a large bottle of this old-time recipe, improved by the addition of other ingredients, all ready to use, at very little cost. This simple mixture can be depended upon to restore natural color and beauty to the hair. A well-known downtown druggist eays everybody uses Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound now because It darkens so naturally and evenly that nobody can tell it has been applied it's. so easy to use, too. You simply dampen a comb or soft brush and draw It through your hair, taking one strand at a time. By morning the gray hair disappears; after another application or two, it is restored to its natural color and 'looks glossy, soft and beautiful. Advertisement.
