Frankel INTERMISSION Overture Murray Orchestra Glen R. Crum Director Marie Keller Jessup. Organist The Overture to William Tell, by Rossini, is characteristic of life in th Swiss Alaps. The opening depicts the dawn of a new day: thn the Rans des Vachcs. or thp calling of the sheep and goats on the mountain side. Suddenly distant rumbling herald n threaten-. ing storm, growing louder and louder as it approaches, until, with a flah of lightning and a crash of thunder, we find ourselves in the mi 1st of an Alpine storm. The storm pa-cs over ' and gradually recedes, giving way to the cr.ln and peaceful quiet of dawn. The trumpet call to freedom is a fitting climax to the best known composition by the greatest of air Italian composers.
