SUNDAY ; Washington "Midsummer Madnesfi." . Murray H. , B. Warner in "The White Dove"; Vaudeville. Murrette "The Scoffer." Richmond "Once to Every Woman." MURRAY Herbert Greenwood, as Ebenezer Usher, is 'the "heavy" of "The White Dove" in which H. B. Warner has opened at the Murray Theatre for a .stay of four days. He portrays the character of an elderly jnan who preys upon an old friend to keep the former's son out of jail. This is a Robertson-Cole special. MURRETTE If all the ghosts were as attractive as Mary Miles Mlnter's lovely apparition, which floated mysteriously but always gracefully and unspookishly through many scenes of "All Souls' Eve," nobody ought to mind living in a haunted house or next door to a cemetery. The new picture, which opens a two day run at the Murrette Theatre Friday, is an adaptation of a stage play which created a sensation when produced in New York last winter. For it deals with the theme of the spirit's life after death, a theme of universal interest, especially since the war, but one which demands the most careful handling. RICHMOND The Metropolitan ODera House, the r world s most famous shrine of music, f.v,t.. CI U UUJTDIM1 1 1 J 1UI one scene of "Once to Every Woman," Dorothy Phillips' masterpiece of the screen. Allen Holubar, directing Miss Phillips in her Universal productions, declined to use a lesser edifice and ordered the huge auditorium duplicated to Its smallest detail. At a stupendous cost the theatre was built at Universal City in record time, workmen by the hundred working under the supervision of a corps of architects to complete the structure on schedule. For the audience scores of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara so ciety people asked the privilege of apr earing in a photodrama with Dorothy rhillips. Instead of the usual personnel of extra photoplayers the seats were filled by wealthy amateurs of the drama. The costumes worn by the women will arouse interest because of their originality and richness. An entire chorus was rehearsed, the players singing the score. Nicholas de Ruiz, a noted baritone of the operatic stage, led the chorifs and depicted the role of the Chinese Emperor. The Ix)s Angeles Symphony orchestra, under the direction of Adolf Tandler. occupied the orchestra pit and played the accompaniment. It is a coincidpnre that Tandler was at one time concert master at the Metropolitan, "Once to Every Woman," in which Porothy rhillip is sntd-to-xcer-everti bor work in "The Heart of Humanity"! and "The Right to Happiness." will he ! pbown at the Richmond theatre Sun-1 day. ! MURRAY VAUDEVILLE. j Probably the most pleasant surprise waiting theatre goers at the Murray ! theatre in the bill playing the last! ., half of this week, is the fact that tJire--of the four acts carry special drop?. This may seem of little importance to many, but the change is welcome to ! the patron having become familiar with the house "trimmings." It lends a touch of the artistic, and of tast. Jean Barrios, (male) has thie audience believing he is Jean Barrios ( female t, until after his first song. Arrayed in the fluffy stuff of the well dressed doung lady. Jean, we will puess. had no doubters as to his sex when he first appeared. He possesses an unusually flexible falsetto, which he handles seemingly with ease. His imitation of Mary Garden singing her song of Budda was wonderful. Not being a blushing young maiden, despite his extravagant wordrobe, he wins the laughs by his brazen exposure of the secrets of girl's attire. For a moment all is darkness, then through the rays of a dimly lighted ,tage we see the lid of an ash can raise, and out peeps the wondering ores of Lillian C-onno. Then seated upon the can, Lillian recites, half whimsically, half sadly, of the the woes of an empty stomach on a Christmas eve. She is only but a kid in size, and her portrayal of the typical "brat" is remindful of the best and worst. In the scene that follows she proves herself truly a comedienne. Would that we could view all acts impartially, yet human likes and dislikes are not infalliable. We greatly jippreciate the musical talent of the five young ladies in "The Cameo Girls" but we feci like wo were cheated ! while the charms of those five young ladies were hidden behind a screen of gray locks and fancy hoop skirts. Indeed they seemed too "cameo" to ! be human. ' But when in conclusion, they appear all decked out in color, . and the stiffness has given away to

THE last link in the chain between the oil well and .-. your car is the filling kation where you buy your ' gasoline or the tank wagon which delivers it to your home. From refinery, to tank wagon or filling station, to consumer, the business of manufacturing and marketing gasoline is conducted on a basis of selling many gallons at a price which gives only a small profit per gallon. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana) applies this principle in the conduct of its business. The ideal of this Company is to manufacture a gasoline of uniformly high quality, to sell it at a price which will permit of universal use, and to maintain a system of distribution so comprehensive as to make it available everywhere. Only an organization great in ability, and great in size, can give such a service as that provided by the Standard Oil Company (Indiana). The tremendous volume of business it enjoys has been won through efficiency pli che economy of large-scale operation. .... . , When bigness, efficiency and economy all work together, the result is low manufacturing cost, and low product prices.
