John Merchant was named as defendant in a suit brought yesterday in common pleas court by J. L. Wagner who seeks to recover ihe sum of $515.66. was arrested yesterday, and is nowconfined to the. county Jail awaiting a hearing on a charge of stealing a radiator. Ira Warwick, residing a

While working on a switchboard at the electric light plant here yesterday morning, Oscar Viets, an employe, was severely burned about the face. A short circuit caused a flash of fire to flame from the board, catching Mr. Viets about the face. He walked to the office of a physician, assisted by other employes, and it was thought at first that he had lost his sight. This was found to be un

true, although it is admitted he experienced a narrow escape from being blinded. Mr Viats a will be confined

The prisoners and the machine were

driven to the mayor's office, and, for a few moments the machine and the whisky were left alone in front of the village building. While the mayor was questioning the prisoners . the third party got into the machine, and drove away with the liquor. ECONOMY AND BUDGET URGED BY MELLON

WASHINGTON, March 9. Andrew W. Mellon, secretary of the treasury, in his first official statement made public Tuesday night ln the form of a letter to bankers, appealed to "the people generally . to stand for rigid economy in governmental expenditures and urged the immediate , establishment of a national budget system. The new secretary, in his letter, discussed at length the nation's financial condition, declaring that the showing made in the last eight months had been" particularly encouraging." - There are, however, heavy drains- to come on the treasury this month and next, he said, and these require the floating of more short-term certificates of indebtedness, announcement of

I which he made coincident with the letter to the bankers.

The nation cannot afford extravagance," Mr. Mellon said, "and so far as possible, it must avoid entering new fields of expenditures. Figures on current operations of the government

show that the country's finances are

sound, hut that the situation calls for the utmost economy.

everything;

The Chief Thing that Distinguishes

The chief thing that distinguishes one' woman's cooking from, another is the food she serves, and. how that food t is prepared. - The principal element in preparing food is the cooking fat. 'I You can make or mar a steak or a couple of -chops with smokey, greasy fat. and cooking compounds a low temperature make indigestible.

Mazola, which is a 100 pure vegetable Learn more about it at The Palladium's

Animal fata that smoke at food heavy and

oil, reaches cooking point long before smoking point therefore it sears the food over almost immediately. This holds in the rich juices, and prevents the food from getting soggy. Mazola is used to shorten cakes, pie crust and the finest French pastry. Pastry and pie crust are always brown, crisp and perfectly delicious. IMPORTANT ; Many of the best judges of salad oil now prefer Mazola to even the finest imported olive oil it is so pure and uniformly good. Mazola keeps almost indefinitely, and doesn't have to be kept in the ice box. Free Cooking School Tomorrow & Friday

Challenge Refrigerators

Cleanable, Odorless and Sanitary

i

Did you ever stop and think how fortunate the modern housewife is to be able to have the various modern kitchen appliances that eliminate both work and worry, and make housekeeping a pleasure instead of a burden ? And not the least amongst these appliances is the modern refrigerator.

Ar

There is a vast difference between the modern refrigerator of today and the old ice-box of a few years back. In the ice-box it was quite impossible to keep delicate foods without having them tainted by other stronger flavors. But this Is all done away with by modern refrigeration, and food may now be kept with little danger of its becoming tainted. The food compartments are kept at an even temperature, with the greatest economy of ice, and can be as easily cleaned as the top of your kitchen table.
