Bests Allege Bankruptcy. Voluntary petition in bankruptcy .was made in the U. S. District Court at Driyton. Wednesday by Roscoe and Ida Best, well known residents of Van Jhiren township, living four miles ast of Greenville on the Milton Pike, near the Concord Church. Their liabilities are given as $21,995, and their assets at $6,133. It is said that Mr. Best had become heavily involved in deals over stock and swine. A short time ago the couple held a stock sale in effort to meet the demands of their creditors, and a few days thereafter Mr. Best disappeared, and was found several days later wandering around in St. Henry, 'Mercer County, Ohio, apparently suffering from a complete loss of memory. He was brought home and placed under the care of a physician, and it is said 1hnt worry over his financial difficulties has caused a complete nervous breakdown. Consider Hard Road. The state highway department has ailed for bids on the Greenville-Covington road, and the contract will be awarded in two. sections on March IS. The total length of the road is 9.39 miles. The specifications call for
three different kinds of road, brick or
concrete foundation re-inforced concrete, and bituminous concrete. The road is to be completed by December 1 of this year. The bids were asked for once before, but owing to an irregularity In the manner of advertising pursued, it had to be advertised again. To Organize New Lodge. A meeting will be held at the Moose lodge rooms in this city at 2 o'clock
Sunday afternoon,, for the purpose of organizing a camp of the Sons of Veterans. A number of citizens have already signed the charter, and these are requested to be at the meeting, as
an organization will be effected, including election of officers. The county jail here has only one occupant at the present time, Edward Flory, held on a non-support charge. The Darke County Chester White Breeders Association will hold a meeting here at the court house. Saturday evening, March 5, at 6 o'clock, at which time final arrangements for the swine show and judging contest to he held at the fair grounds next summer will bo made. An interesting address will be delivered by Mr. Doty, of Ohio University, on the Boys and Girls Pig Work in Darke county. , Immediately following this talk, a banquet will be held at the Oak Restaurant. SMALL business is essential to our national prosperity and has won for itself an important and an enduring place. But small business, however multiplied, cannot undertake to serve the public in a big way where unity of service is necessary. This must be accomplished by great, highly specialized organizations, managed honestly and efficiently, and functioning to the benefit of all the people. Such an organization is the Standard OilCompany (Indiana) . Its business is to refine crude petroleum into the many products needed by the people to provide a system of distribution which will make them available everywhere, and to sell at a price which is fair to alL To accomplish this, 25,000 men and women devote all their time, energy, and intelligence to the task, while the stockholders have invested more than $200,000,000 of capital. In preparing to meet the demands of industry, agriculture, and motorists throughout the 11 Middle Western states served, the Company is now refining petroleum to the limit of its vast refinery capacity. It is distributing gasoline, kerosene, and lubricating oils to its bulk stations throughout the territory in order that it may be in position to give immediate service when the Spring and Summer rush comes.
