QUAKER BALL TOSSERS CHOSEN FOR ABILITY TO STOP WABASH FIVE

It seems probable that Coach Mowe will start the same lineup against the Wabash quintet Friday night as thatt which worked with such precision against the Purdue Boilermakers! At ', least it is a safe bet that the Initial ' fire will be chosen from the following men: Lawler, Hall. Carey. Goar. Beck and Johnson. Mowe stated Thursday that much would depend on the condition of the men as several of them have recently been on the sick list. The Quakers will need a team that is "able to meet the shifty offense of the Little Giants for it is a well known fact that the scoring abilities of the Crimosn players are not limited to any one person. In the game with Butler Tuesday night every one of Coach Vaughn's men entered the scoring column. This ability makes the Little Giant combination hard to stop. Wabash ' Machine Strong. According to all indications Richmond basketball fans will witness-one of the fastest contests played on the local floor this season. Besides having a galaxy of individual stars Wabash is recognized as having one of the most powerful basketball machines in the country. Their schedule this year has included the best teams in this section of the country. Mowe announced Thursday, that contrary to bis former plans he had arranged a curtain raiser to the big game. In this opening fracus the Cambridge City high school team will mix with the local T. N. T. aggrega tion. Cambridge City is recognized as having one of the best high school outfits In the district. In order to take care of the large crowd anticipated at the game Mowe lias announced that all Earlham students will enter at the south door, all general admission and coupon holders at the middle door and all persons having reserved seats at the north door. BRINGING UP FATHER BY McMANUS Tier u. a Pat Off." LEGION FIVE BURIES ROSE CITY QUINTET UNDER 61-9 SCORE Uncorking & brand ' of basketball that it has not displayed before this season, the American Legion basketball team literally swamped the Rose City Athletic club basketball five on the Coliseum floor Wednesday night by the score of 61-9. The visitors were outclassed completely in all departments of the game and at no time threatened to overcome the locals' lead. Simmons started the scoring with a field goal from under the basket and the total was run up to nine before Newcastle managed to score. The first half ended 30-5 in Richmond's favor. Soldiers Are Fast Although the score was one-sided, the game was not slow and uninteresting, the ex-soldiers displaying lots of speed, working the ball up the floor in wonderful style with the short, snappy style of passing. There were few shots attempted from the center of the floor, all the shots being taken from under the basket. Effects of the coaching the Red and Black has been getting i3 gradually! coming out and the team that stack up against the locals will find them a much tougher proposition than before. Much credit should be given to the coaches, as they have teen work ing hard to get the team into a winning combination. Eubanks Makes Good Eubanks, who was started at one of the forward positions in O'Neil's" place, showed up to good advantage, getting five goals from the field. There were no individual stars on the team, all the men playing a good, consistent game. Coach Harrington gave all the men a chance, making many substitutions. Every man copped at least one goal. The players are showing considerable improv ment in their basket shooting, afid all the men seem to have regained their eye for the basket. The combination of Parker and Bertsch at guard and McBride at forward worked exceptionally well and adds considerable weight to the team. It is said this combination will be used hereafter. The lineups and score for the game are as follow: Richmond. 61 Newcastle, 3 Porter Eubanks Simmons McBride v F., Orr F Crandall I C Gordenj G Goodale ' Bertsch G Williams Substitutions Harding for Mc-; Rrirto p9rtir for Hardine.
