Violet's letter was unusually thick. It was dated Sunday, and I judged from the length of it that she must have spent all her Sunday afternoon writing It. "Dearest Aunt Enid," she began. "I wish you would come back. I know you don't want to stay in as poky a place as Henly Falls, and mother's actually getting tired of the city. I don't believe she ever really did like it; she came from curiosity, and now she wants to go back. Imagine! "I think I'd better tell you the told me to call him that, isn't It funny? I have to practice it again and again, and 6uch a look as he gives me when I forget and call him Mr. Meade anyway, to get back to what I was going to say, Uncle Francis sent the college a check for my next term, which begins in a week! "Wasn't that lovely of him? I simply hugged him for it, which mother thought wasn't quite proper but he liked it, and pretended to think it was more than reward for the little money the college term cost him. Fancy having so much money that you can sign checks to to colleges and not think about it twice!" Vi's letters were always more imma. ture than she was, and I always smiled as I read what she had written. This times James was in the room, waiting eagerly for news of his sister. I went back and started the letter again from the beginning, reading it aloud to James, so he could share it. "Uncle Francis says he wrote you about what he had done, so I needn't bother to. Wasn't it really lovely, of him?. I. wish he knew how grateful I was and always will be. Of course, it's poor plodding James that should go and not scatter-brained me, but that's life, isn't it? the regards to the undeserving." "That's a college girl's idea for you." murmured James in derision, at this piece of 19-year-old philosophy. "Mother says the city makes her nervous," the letter went on. "At first she loved to turn the hot water faucet on and see the steamy water pour out, but that's lost its novelty for her, and now f H?aTfc W 6- C B 0 IJB TT "1 aiways was Deuer tnan hindsight. she's aching to get back to what she calls 'a nice, large kitchen, where a body can move about.' I tried to tell her how inefficient a huge barn of a kitchen was, but you can't tell mother anything. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but she just won't let any new ideas percolate. "And she won't go out. So evenings when I don't have so much studying, either Bud comes and we sit around and talk or play cards I hate cards or else we calmly go out. I expect that is not nice, since mother is my guest, but when Bud is here, she is hateful to him, and she hates to budge after dinner. Anyway, please, please come back I miss you so much!" "Uncle Francis says when you come, or when you are ready, wire him, and he will take a few days off and come up in the car and get you and drive you down. He has been awfully busy with Bud's case and getting his office so he can leave it for that gorgeous wedding trip he is planning. Most of it is to be a secret from you, you'll only know where you're going as you get taken along but I know all about it! "I have saved up Bud's affair till the last; I expect because it is most important." "He got off, didn't he?" James asked eagerly. "Yes, he got off," I answered, my eye running rapidly down the lines of the paper. "Thank heaven!" James murmured. "The last part of the hearing was yesterday, and Uncle Francis took me down, and I skipped a couple of lectures to be there. It was awful I was simply terrified. They had Bud up for a few questions, and Pete, too, and that awful Mr. Simons. Toots is working somewhere, Pete told me later, in one of the department stores. She is really a nice sort, after all. "Then there was a dreadful wait, and I wanted to shriek, I was so nervous. Uncle Francis said it was all right, this last was partly formality, everyone knew what would happen. Oh Aunt Enid, I nearlly died from Joy! A few weeks ago I gave a short talk on strapping the chin at night to preserve its youthful line. No woman under 35 should have to make use of such a treatment. The chin in fact, the whole face can be strapped or bound at night to hold up sagging muscles. One of the easiest methods is to use strips of gauze or white cheese cloth. These cost very little, if the material is bought and torn into strips at home. The picture will give you an idea of how the chin is bound up. First of all, the skin should be massaged with a flesh building cream. Ordinary cold creams will not do, because they contain only mineral oil which the skin does not absorb. The face should first be bathed in hot water, then massaged with the cream, a liberal amount of which is left on the Fkin. If only the chin is to be Alkali in Shampoos Bad For Washing Hair Most soaps and prepared shampoos contain too much alkali, which is very injurious, as it dries the scalp and makes the hair brittle. The best thing to use is Mulsified cocoanut oil shampoo, for this is pure and entirely greaseless. It's very cheap and beats anything else all to pieces. You can get Mulsified at any drug store, and a few ounces will last the whole family for months. Simply moisten the hair with water and rub it in, about a teaspoonful is all that is required. It makes an abundance of rich, creamy lather, cleanses thoroughly, and rinses out easily. The hair dries quickly and is Eoft, fresh looking, bright, fluffy, wavy and easy to handle. Besides, it loosens and takes out every particle of dust, dirt and dandruff. Be sure your druggist gives you Mulsified. Advertisement. But anyway Uncle Francis took Bud and myself up to his house for dinner that night his mother was away. And then, after dinner, a man came to see him and they went into bis study to talk, and Bud and I sat in the big library there and had the first real visit together since before Christmas. But I miss you so," the letter went on. illogically. "Please come back right away. Mother wants to go home anyway." Tomorrow Francis Comes. bound up the gauze Is wrapped around the head and under the chin, so as to hold firmly the lax muscles. Several thicknesses of gauze will be necessary and the bandage must be secure when you are finished, otherwise it win come off during the night. Chin strapping is very good for older women, tut younger women who have been ill and whose faces show the marks of illness, will find this helpful in improving their appearance.
