THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM MONDAY, JAN. 8, 1921. SUN-TELEGRAM. RICHMOND. 1NDWOMEN IN BANKS OF BOSTON SHOW ABILITY AS EXPERT CLERKS

PACjE SIXTEEN

(By Associated Press.) BOSTON, Jan. 3. One thousand women are employed in the banks of Boston. This would not be surprising but for the fact thai a large proportion are employed as expert clerks an elastic term in all departments of the institutions. The women were employed, in many cases with reluctance: as a waf emergency when the boys went marching away, but they are said to have Bhown adaptability to the banking business. Miss Caroline P. Stickle, in charge

of the woman personnel in an institu- j lion employing 318 women, says thatj ast year 200 women bank clerks occupied much of their spare time obtaining added knowklege of the principles and details of banking afforded by the evening courses conducted for the benefit of the Boston Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. Of women in the banking world she says: Work Is Satisfactory. "Until within a few years most positions open to women within banking institutions have been largely in the nature of stenagraphis work. At present you will find women in almost every department and when the department head is consulted he will tell you that the woman clerk's work is very satisfactory indeed. "Occasionally, we hear of some woman who has attained an executive position within the conservative circles of banking although such attainments have not been at all general. This is not a bit discouraging, however, when we, realize that what we have been given to do we have done satisfactorily. We need to realize that , the future may bring greater opportunities and to bo ready for these wo cannot have too great knowledge relating to the principles and details of banking." Liquo r Law Violations Give Cleveland $65,000 (By Associated Press.) CLEVELAND, O., Jan. 3. Cleveland's city coffers were richer by more than $65,000 during November as the result of fines for alleged liquor law violators, according to a report made public today. Five hundred and eighty-four persons were arrestea during the month for alleged violation of prohibition laws. Of the number fined, 158 paid without contesting. One hundred and thirty sought for a time to have their penalties reduced, and. failing, paid up. Six, who had no money to pay their penalties, are working them out in the workhouse at the rate of 50 cents a day. A church in Springfield, Mass.. recently was the scene of nine weddings in one day. Alkali in Shampoos Bad For Washing Hair Most soaps and prepared shampoo3 contain too much alkali, which is very injurious, as it dries the scalp and mali oh th hair brittle. The best thing to use is Mulsifled j cocoanut oil shampoo, for this is pure and entirely greaseless. It's very cheap and beats anything else all to ni(i Ynn ran stp.t Mulsifled at any drug store, and a few ounces will last the whole family for months. Simply moisten the hair with water and rub it in, about a teaspoonful is all that is required. It makes an nhiindanfft of rich, creamy lather. cleanses thoroughly, and rinses out i easilv. The hair dries quickly and is soft, fresh looking, bright, fluffy, ivn-cv and pnqv to handle. Besides, it loosens and takes out every particle of dust, dirt and dandruff. Be sure j ' your druggist gives you Mulsifled. Advertisement. Columbia Records Q. R. S.
