I all the world should be taxed. -I And this taxing was first made when ; Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be taxed, every one into his j own city. I. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city :of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David. I To be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife, jSbeing great with child. 1 jj And so it was, that, while they were there.

the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there Were in the same country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. . And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them ; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you ; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly .host praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

IF WE ONLY KNEW MORE! Most o our . mistakes are ' made in ignorance. We - do hot understand. If we only.kne-w.mdT! , , Theft we would walk surer. We would he "holder, too. .'We would store more courage. ; ' Knowledge has at least two very important sources. There is knowledge which comes through accurate seeing' and that which results from understanding. I passed by a noted place the other day. I had seen It many times before I had thought. But as I approached it this latest time, I made up my- mind that I would try to understand it better in all that it meant to me. And ever since that time I have been recalling things that I had never seen before about the place. Today I. talked with a man who could see none of the wonderful virtues that I attributed to one of my finest friends. I could not understand it, for the companionship of this friend of mine had proved so rich and true. So I just said:: "If you only knew him better as he really Is you would think as t do about him." If we only knew more about the ones we already love and admire. Every time I look Into the face of a flower, or eat a meal, or take a car ride, or read a newspaper or book, I feel such an inadequacy of real knowledge. 1 feel helpless in the arms of mystery and wonder.. For the more you think about the commonest gifts cf nature" and the way men have taken

advantage of its wealth, the more knowledge you come to want. If we onlv knew more, how many

new' worlds we would be able to

enter! Let us try to learn more to be selfaDDointed discoverers and explorers

our own limited brain worlds, dui at the same time planting our overflow of ideas and good services as we go.

POOR OLD NOAH. Noah Webster has been barred from the famous Hall of Fanle; he's too dead to take it hard, yet it seems a beastly shame; for the book that Noah penned, though in places hard to read, Is our everlasting friend, and the sort of friend we need. Noah's picture must not hang in the hall so bright and fair, though 'twould honor all the gang of punk poets entered there; Noah wrote no cheap romance, and he played no rhymester's game, so he

never took a chance in the well known J

hall of fame. Noah took the toughest words the country could invent, or could borrow from the Kurds, and he showed just what they meant; not a word could get away when this man was on its trail; he would chase it day by day till he grabbed it by the tail. 'Twas a tiresome, musty task, but old Noah held it down, while his neighbors used to bask idly in the idle town. Sages, poets, all such birds, went to Noah's noble tome, for the meaning of the words that they used in speech
