SURRENDER OF COWS PROTESTED IN LETTER FROM GERMAN WOMEN

The letter was framed by a committee of 26 women deputies representing the bourgeois and majority Socialist parties in the reichstag. and was in reply to an open letter addressed to them by the women suffrage union "of France, disoussing the German protest against the surrender of German milch cows. '

"On the other hand, we see the need of every part of Germany is so great that further reduction in the . milk supply would be equivalent to the death sentence for hundreds of thousands of children. Instead of the twen- ' ty billion Titers of milk which Germany produced annually in peace times, the country is now producing only 8,800,000,000.M Milk Is Scarce. For nearly six years the population of German cities have not had milk the- letter asserts and owing to the fact the death rate from tuberculosis has doubled since 1913. and 38,000 more children died in 1918 than in 1913. In Prussia alone there has been an increase in child mortality of 100 percent. The letter declares these facts are not known to the French "because the press has not permitted the informatipji to be made public." Property loss is estimated at $15,000. Mrs. Carnes was passing the front of the shop when the explosion occurred.' Mlllen is an employe. RAVENNA Henry W. Riddle: 83 years old, Ravenna,s only millionaire, died at his home here. He leaves what is considered the finest collection of grandfathers clocks in the JJnited States. For years he collected antique models until he filled room after room with clocks. It is estimated their value is close to several hundred thousand dollars. an investigation to discover the cause of the death of Howard C. Winey, 40 years old, Wooster ' insurance man. His body was found beside the Pennsylvania railroad tracks at Orrvllle, but authorities believe the man was murdered and taken to ' the train tracks. A wallet containing $400 which he had with him Is missing. LISBON "Condemned to death by the State Board of Health." reads a placard hung on the historic old town pump in the public square of this city. The death sentence was , posted following a survey of the water supply.

Five deep-water wells of the municipality have also been condemned. A serious lack of drinking water is reared.

BANKERS PRACTICE SHOOTING. (By Associated Press) DETROIT, Mich., Dec 21. As a protection against robbers, 'employes of a savings bank here have begun revolver practice under orders of William Livingstone, the bank's president. A 50 foot revolver range has been erected on the top of a 20 story structure. All male employes of the insti

tution, numbering several hundred, have been ordered to engage in revolver practice at least one night each week. It is planned to train women employes of the bank to use firearms later.
