BUSINESS MEN DESERT DESKS: THRASH RIVALS

"They came to ridicule, but they remained to wonder," must be said of th basketball game staged between the Young Men's Business club and the Kiwanis club on the Coliseum floor Monday night. The Young. Men's club managed to gain the victory 21 tn 16, after the Kiwanis staged a last minute rally which threatened to bring the bacon to their camp. It was a real game and not a farce. The game was featured by much scrambling for the ball by a few of the mcfre inexperienced players,' but immediately following this scramble one of the old stars would get hold of the ball and tear down the floor for a lightning dribble, or pull off some snappy pass work with an old team mate. Logan, captain of the Y.' M. B. C team, and Mowe, of Kiwanis, were the ttars of the contest. Logan collected a total of 10 points, while Mowe chalked up 8. Ed Wiechman showed that at one time he was a wizard at the court 'game, when he caged three field goals and played a good floor game. Substitute New Team. The game was played in 10-minut quarters, to allow time for recuoeraI lion. At the beginning of the second half the Y. M. B. C. sent in an entirely new team. This squad was unable to hold the Kiwanians who outplayed and outr.corod them. Logan brought his original five back on the floor during the closing period and they chalked up the winning points. Kiwanis made 12 substitution during the game, the business men 11. Mowe Scores. Mowe began the scoring by tossing a foul, but Johnpon forged the Y. M. B. C. ahead by scoring a field goal immediately after. The game see-sawed to the end of the first half which ended 6 to 4 In favor of the young men. The first half ended 14 to 6 in the winner's favor. SHELBYVILLE COMES TO TRY HIGH METTLE

Shelbyvllle will be the next opponent of the Richmond high school basketball team. The Shelby county lads will make their appearance on tho floor next Monday night, and from advance reports it seems that the Red and White will have their bands full dying to take care of the fast team that is slated to appear here. The auspicious opening of the season by the R. H. S. squad when they defeated Knightstown here last Friday right has but the local followers on their tos for a good game thi3 week. Coach Null is pu'ting his mfn through some stiff .practices in order to get them in shape for the encounter, and to satisfy the expectations of all the high school students and fans who will attend the game. Defeat Manual. ' Shelbyville defeated the Manual Training high school of Indianapolis on their own floor this last week, by one point. In. what the Manual students claim was a heart-breaking game. If the local school is able to take the visitors into camp, they will be ranked fairly high in state high school net circles. The iocal team demonstrated that predictions on their speed were right. Their size is the one great handicap. If they continue their assault upon the draperies they should have a very ereditible team this season. Coach Null probably will start the same men in the next, game as played though the last one. That is Amick and Harkins, forwards, Txehr, center; Rost and Green, forwards.
