SKYSCRAPER VIUDOVS .WASHED BY A SMALL ARMY IN CHICAGO
CBr Associated Press.) CHICAGO. Dec 17.Praotically all the windows of Chicago's sykscrapers are cleaned by a (.mall body of men 225 who are members of the Chicago Window Washers Union, according to Wililam McDade, . business agent for the organisation. The men work on a weekly basis, ' eight hours constituting a day's work. When conditions make outside , work impossible, the men are employed on the inside. The contract for cleaning the windows is given to contracting companies. These companies bid on the vork and when the bids are accepted they furnish the men from the union. They also furnish all material used in washing the windows, such as working harness for the washers, palls, sponges, chamois, etc. In fact they Supply everything, except the water. Every possible safety device known to the trade is employed by the union to protect its men from accidents. t The number of men killed doing this kind of , work has been greatly lessened through the efforts of the union, Mr. McDade said. The contractors also have done much to safeguard the I-edestrians below. In the past year, the union lost only one man by death, while the number of accidents to its members has shown a big decrease. The average union washer will clean about 100 windows a day the business agent said, as this is what the contracting companies figure on when giving their estimate on the work. - The' membership of the union is made up of about 40 per cent Americans, 50. per cent Polish while the other 10 per. cent is divided among other nationalities.' About two-thirds
of the members of the union married men.

This Institution Makes Xmas Giving a Joy-Christmas Shopping a Pleasure A Gift Shop that will turn the trial of Christmas shopping to the trail of Christmas Giving Christmas giving is devoid of its sentiment when it becomes an effort when selecting the right gift for the right person at the right price is a matter of mathematics rather than good cheer. Truly good cheer emanates from this store. The genuine Christmas spirit distinguishes all of our gifts. Because for eleven months of the year we are close observers of what a woman chooses for herself, on the 1 2th month we are vested with valuable information as to what others may choose to please her. Just the amount one cares to spend will purchase just the gift one cares to buy, for we have considered every taste, every purse and every circumstance of giving and we offer as many delightful surprises as do Christmas packages when they are opened on Christmas morning.
