and Pete Herman. WIRELESS TO PROTECT SHIPPING ON LAKES (By Associated Press! . CHICAGO, Dec, 11. Through the establishment by the federal government of a chain of automatic wireless stations at danger points along the Great Lakes, dangers of lake navigation will be greatly reduced, it was learned today. Ships blown near dangerous reefs and shoals will be warned by automatic dancer sienals sent at a pitch that can be caught by the wireless apparatus of any, vessel. With the station at Great iAkes, 111., as a basis, the bureau of navigation plans to build ten direction finding stations at a cost of $13,000 each. Two now under construction are is Lake Superior between Whitefish Point and Grand Marais, a stretch known as the "graveyard of the Great Iakes," because of many wrecks in that vicinity. Other plants are to be trected at Thunder Bay Island. Eagle Harbor, Detour and Manistique and later four more stations will be constructed at points around I.ke Superior. The stations were authorized by congress last year. - : Ordnance Material Ready for 17 Major Ships (By Associated Press) WASHINGTON. Dec. 11. Production of ordnance material, particularly main battery guns and fire control instruments, for the 17 major ships now under construction for the navy progressed satisfactorily throughout the last fiscal year, according to the an nu?l report of Rear Admiral Charles B. McVay, Jr., chief of the bureau of ordinance submitted today to Secretary Daniels. Present indications are that the material in all cases will be ready for the ships before they are completed, the report says. Work of liquidation of the large number of ordnance contracts entered into by the bureau during the war ia reviewed and the report states that practically all contracts have been settled without litigation. MEXICAN EXILE, 91. RETURNS EL PASO, Tex.. Dec. 11. After years of virtual exile, Gen. Luis Terrazas, ex-Governor of Chihuahua, will go back to Mexico- to spend the remainder of his life, he said today. He is on his way to Chihuahua City from Los Angeles. His estate of nearly 5.000,000 acres of land has been returned to him. He is 91 vears old.
