Bobby Jones to be Contender in English Golf Championship Match
LOCAL LEGION FIVE WALLOPS WINCHESTER
WINCHESTER, Ind., Dec 9. The Winchester Phi Delta were defeated by the Richmond American Legion post here Wednesday night in a hotly contested game, 25 to 20. This is the first defeat for the local five-this season and came after the best game of the season had been played. O'Neal, Richmond forward, showed up particular well in shooting goals, while C. Once again word has been received that when the next British amateur championship tournament gets under way Bobby Jones will be a contender This statement hoa been made by J. Douglas Edgar of Atlanta, Canadian and Bouthern open golf champion, formerly an assistant to Vardon in England. Edgar was at the pier to bid Vardon and Ray adieu and see his family off to England for a visit Edgar himself said he could not make the trip, as he had signed for many exhibition matches in the south this winter. When Jones goes abroad Edgar wilr be with him, and the "boy wonder" will enter both British amateur and open championships. Mile. Susanne Wurtz, French swimming champion, will sail for New York shortly to challange the American champion, Miss Ethelda Bleibtrey, for the woman's championship of the world. At the Olympic games. Miss Bleibtrey defeated Mile Wurtz easily, but the French girl has since been receiving instruction from the American champion, Norman Rpss, in the American crawl. Using this stroke, Mile. Wurtz recently swam 100 meters within one second of Miss Bleibtrey's Antwerp time. Howard (Buster) Caton. the small

Weak hitting is supposed to have been responsible for Buster's transfer from Pittsburg, but if he can hit for a whole season like he crocked the pellet every time he came to Brooklyn then there is a regular berth awaiting him. He is, as stated before, a little man. a right-handed , thrower and batter, but husky out of proportion to his inches. He has hit around the .250 mark this season and many of his thumps were- of timely proportions. During the war Caton enlisted In the army and while on a furlough one day stole into Pittsburg and married Miss Jennie Williams of that city. The romance was said to have started when Caton went into a Pittsburg candy shop to buy a box of bonbons for himself, of course. Caton became a regular customer after that and the candy salesgirl is now a major leaguer's wife.
