GUESTS FORGETFUL, SAYS HOTEL CLERK; TEST HIS PATIENCE
From the Chicago News "I've been robbed!" wheezed a lawyer, rushing up to a Chicago hotel desk the other day. "Call the police. I had $500 in cash, two checks for $4,500. Now they're Rone." "No?" said Jack Hoffman, the clerk. He gave forth shouts. A posse of bellhops tumbled across the lobby. "How did it happen? Where did you carry the money? Vest? Wallet? Got to have a clew, y'know." "Why" and the man grew red "I I say, wait a minute. Be right back." He loped toward an elevator. The bellhop bloodhounds strained at the leash. In three minutes he was back. He grinned, h'mmed and dug his toe in the floor sheepishly. "It's all right, that money," he said. "J made a mistake; it wasn't stolen. 1 forgot I hid it in the waste paper basket in my 100m last night for safekeeping. 'S'all right. Don't bother about the policemen." How It Happens. The clerk turned to an onlooker: "Old stuff," he said. "Happens every day. Why, say. there was a duet of newly-weds landed here from Muscatine, la., on their honeymoon. Last July. I think. The bride went shopping that afternoon. The bridegroom, a traveling man. checked out and left tewn on a Northwestern train. Plumb forpot all about her. "The girl wife came back to the hotel; grew hysterical. We wired to the train. Back came Mr. Hubby on the next train panic stricken. She said a few things, brother. "A New York financial expert left $45,000 in stocks and bonds in a dresser drawer recently. A maid turned the bundle into the office, lie ent her a $23 check. I heard of one Michigan avenue hotel where a mother forgot her C-year-old boy. "Hundreds of folks leave their watches under their pillows, their hats and coats in closets, love letters on table and, yes, one man left half a bcttle of Bourbon." Lose 25,000 Articles. At least twenty-five thousand articles a year are forgotten at the hotel, according to the manager. They are rent to the Salvation Army. Other downtown hotels reported storerooms filled with articles left by guests. But Mr. Calbaugh added that guests frequently check out with towels, sheets, blankets, pictures, vases and other botfl property. 'One young couple, he said, took enough material to furnish thir kitchenette apartment. The record book of one loop hotel showed these forgotten articles: 'A Lexington, Ky.. woman, on August 20 left n false curl; she never called for it. Then there were silk pajamas, hundreds of nightshirts, trousers, mzors, false teeth, underwear, vanity bags, photos of pretty girls and babies; an opal ring, fur collar piece, silK stockings, electric hair curler, marriage certificate left by an Indianapolis couple, race track "done" book, odd slippers, shoes and neckties.

this winter if you use Red Crown Gasoline. Cold weather is the severest test that gasoline has to stand. If the gasoline contains too few low boiling point fractions your car starts hard, and warms up slowly. You get anxious and crowd in more gas than your engine can burn. Combustion is poor. You waste gas and you reap only inefficiency. But

you will get efficiency from the jump. You will use less gas. You will get greater mileage. Red Crown begins to vaporize at about 100 degrees Fahrenheit, 40 degrees under the initial required by Government specification. When your starter turns over your motor begins to hum. It gets away quickly, accelerates smoothly, and when you step on the accelerator, there is all the power and speed your en
gine can develop right under your foot. What more can you ask of gasoline? Over 1,300,000 motorists in the Middle West alone use Red Crown. It is made by the Standard Oil Company of Indiana, according to authoritative, scientific data to fit the modern automobile engine under conditions obtaining in the Middle West. You can't beat it. Better switch to Red Crown if you are not already using it.
