ESTATE OF EMPEROR IS USED FOR BENEFIT ' OF INVALID SOLDIERS

(J3y Associated Press) VIENNA. Not. 4. The vast estates of th late Emperor Francis Joseph will be devoted to the pension fund of invalid soldiers under a decision just taken by the cabinet council. Certain castles and dwellings in this city and the nearby suburb of Baden will either be occupied by them or the fund will receive the rentals and other accruements. ' . ' ' Included In the arrangement are the splendid estates of Orth, Vossendorf. Maltighoefen, Poeggstall. Augonten, Laxenburg, Hetzendorf and many others, the decision also covering the tains Tiergarten, near Vienna, on which a group of some hundreds of former soldiers recently squatted. Income Included. ' The Income of the Prater, Vienna's most famous suburban park with its numerous restaurants and amusement places, is also Included. Many of the estates contain model farms and others are under rentals of much value. -The late Emperor Francis Joseph, who died in 1916, bequeathed 60,000,000 crowns from his private fortune to a fund for wounded soldiers, invalids and relatives of men. killed in the war. To two daughters and one granddaughter he bequeathed 20,000,000 crowns each, the remaining 10,000,000 crowns of his estate to be divided among several other legatees. It has since been reported that an American-Dutch company has bought the Emperor's summer palace at IschU in the Tyrol, for hotel purposes. The hunting estates and lodges of the late Emperor in the Tyrol were advertised lor sale in January last. Francis considered these the finest in Europe.

Miss Sue White. Miss Sue White is one of the well known women in scffraRe circles in Washington. Although she has not been a member of the Woman's party headquarters long she has established a reputation as a worker. She hails' from Tennessee and when the suffrage fight bee; -e hot down there recently she went right back home and talked plain southern talk to the home folks. She is widely known and liked in her home estate. Her work now is research.

Nicholson Says Election Strengthened Dry Forces S. Edgar Nicholson, organizer of the National Anti-Saloon league, said Tuesday's election greatly strengthens the dry forces in Congress. The house will have from 12 to 15 more dry votes and in the senate the temperance forces held their own, he said. One of the remarkable features of the election was the victory of Congressman Shreve in the Erie, Pa., district, who was defeated in the primary by a wet Democrat, but was elected Tuesday on a Prohibition and Independent ticket.

STUDENTS WILL DEBATE ON SCHOOL QUESTION ALEXANDRIA, Ind., Nov. 4. To decide whether it is the best for the school systems of the city and country to consolidate and erect a large high school building in this city, a debate between country and city school children will be held in the Methoditt church Wednesday evening, Nov. 10. Taxpayers in the city favor the consolidation, while farmers oppose it.

MONROE SCHOOL. NOTES The Monroe schocl enjoyed a vacation on Friday, while the superintend and the entire corps of teachers attended the convention of the Southwestern Teachers' association, at Cincinnati. The teachers left Thursday evening and spent several profitable and pleasant days in the Queen city. Mr. McDill returned to Camden Saturday evening, where he spent Sunday. Miss Swarlzel and Miss Burckhardt returned Saturday evening to Eldorado. The other teachers remained until Sunday evening visiting friends and places of interest Dorothy Arthur has been absent from the 'sixth grade several days because of sickness.. .Mary Deaton entered the fourth grade Monday. ....The first and second grades gave a Halloween program Thursday afternoon.

Jordan TCel'.ey applied for enlistment recently arid .since putting in his appearance ift;.vy recruiting officers have been srrutehing their heads and burning up the telegraph wires between here and Washington In an effort to .learn whether Jordan is eligible for re-enlistment. The applicant told Lieutenant Comruander Paul Thiess that his mother was a native of France, that his father was English, Scotch and Italian,

that he (Kelley) was born in a Portuguese ship at Port Said. Both of his parents died when he was 2 years old. JCelley declares he was adopted by a Slavonian family. He was brought to the United States by his foster parents when he was 5 years old. They have since died. Kelley said, and he does not know whether they were naturalized. The recruiting officers have termed Kelley "a man without a country" in real life.

A committee will take charge of the trophies and guard them carefully so that all can be returned to their rightful owner after the exhibit. FRANCE FAST RETURNING TO NORMAL FROM WAR NEW YORK, Nov. 4. Henry Stanley Todd, president of the Universal Turbine company, who has been Red Cross commissioner in France and Belgium since his discharge from the army last December, with the rank of major, has returned from Marseilles. He said he felt confident that France would be in normal condition within three years, and possibly in one or two, so rapidly was she recuperating. Mrs. Todd, who lias been doing relief work among '" "Blue Devils," raid orphans are still in great need, and that she hopes to raise $10,000 in America to build a community trade school for the little ones.
