ENGLAND ASSISTING ' WAR AGAINST SOVIET, SAYS TRADE AGENT
(By Associated Prcsk) LONDON, Oct. 5. Leo Kamtneff, formerly Russian trade agent here, ordered by the British government lo leave England, arrived in Moscow and told the Bolshevik! that the attitude Of allied governments in Europe to ward them has Ranged in accord with the situation oh the Russian war fronts, say Russian advices. "The supporters of intervention have again raised their heads," he said. "The AllleB are making still one more effort to oTerthrow the Soviet government, ajid have staked everything on General Wrangel. Cash Wrangel Checks. "On the day when Lloyd George Vld me to leave London," he stated, the Bank of England started cashing (General Wrangel's checks. A direct war against Russia is very unpopular Sn England, and the working classes demand peace. Therefore Lloyd George did not decide to announce openly the alteration in his policy, and leven my departure was explained by the two excuses of financial assistanc to a labor newspaper, and constant relations between Soviet Russia and the (Council of Action. "The further course of events in SSngland and Europe depends on the manner in which Soviet Russia deJeats Wrangel," concluded Kanienef.

I The Theatres
MURRAY This in the kind of shooting they do In "Firebrand Trevison," the newest IFox production starring Buck Jones and based on the Charles Alden SelU aer story now playing at tne Murray theatre. John Grler. owner of the great Ver'de ranch of SS.OOO acres in California, where most of the exteriors of the piclure were taken, had arranged to plant with rice some acres surrounding a little lake, bo the wild ducks might teed, lie said he would eat wild duck very day during the season.. But he did not know how could prevent Jpoadhers shooting them on his property. "I've got a rifle, but I can't shoot straight enough to bother any one at & halt-mTIe from the house," said he. "Slim Padgett will show you how to eboot," said Buck Jones. "See that loon swimming on the lake?" "Slim" aimed at the loon, some two hundred yards distant. He clipped its seek: with the first shot. Mr. Grier figured that the ducks he rwould lose witnout a shot like "Slim" Ko scare the poachers would cost more rthan he would have to pay "Slim;" Ibut the star refused to part with Slim. MURRETTE There is a veritable screen triumph et the Murrette theatre this week and at the opening performance Sunday a Uaxge audience was held spellbound. JThis quite unusual attraction is Lionel Barrymore, in "The Master Mind," a iphotodramatic production which far excels nine out of every ten pictures (shown. In fact, it can be called superextraordinary without straining the truth in the least. Never before has Mr. Barrymore been seen in any role to such distinct advantage and he igives a character interpretation which impresses itself indelibly upon every mind. The play which las been pro-, vided for him is in many ways masterly in construction and the manner in which it has been arranged to maintain an unbroken suspense from beginning to end offers further proof that the men who are preparing the screen material of today are making rapid strides towards the goal of real literature of the sort which appeals to all classes without offending the intellect of anyone.

Bonos Giving to Industries Declared Unsound Practice (By Associated Press) CHICAGO, Oct. 25. Bonus giving to bring industries to a city has general proved to be an unsound practice and has been almost entirely abandoned, J.. David Larson secretary of the chamber of commerce at Omaha, Neb., told the sixth annual convention of the National Association of Commercial organization secretaries here today. Taking "Commercial Organizations and Industrial Financing" for his subject, Mr. Larson characterized" the bonus practice as a bubble. "Years ago some enthusiastic soul
conceived the idea of buying indus
tries by giving bonuses-," he said. "This expensive experiment appeared
in the form of cash, free land, tax exemptions, etc, etc. Factory chasers,
competing and spurred on by alleged
civlo pride, eliminated more conserva
tive organizations and of course the
bonus hunter vent where the bribe
was largest "Because of the bribes offered, hundreds of industries were built in towns and cities which were not suited for these enterprises and they were ultimately failures, with a loss to the owner and to the bonus giver. "Even Canadian cities, where the municipalities, through taxation, offered liberal bonuses, have abandoned the plan as a failure."

. All Princeton Students . PHILADELPHIA. Oct. 25. More than 300 students In Princeton university, mostly juniors who have enrolled in the economics course, will have their photographs taken to be used in a card index by professors in the department of economics. Fetter, head of the department - of economics, said the
teacher has. been handicapped by not knowing each pupil by name wherever
he meets him and that the proposed scheme should enable an instructor to
get acquainted with all in his class within a few days. This plan was used here with marked success in the Student Army Training courses during the world war.
