WOMEN SERVE POLAND IN WAR WITH REDS; MARCH WITHOUT FOOD WARSAW, Oct. 25. A Polish "woman soldier 'who took part in driving back the Bolsheviki . from Warsaw, writing a Polish newspaper, says she went 10 days without taking off her clothes, and that frequently th8 members of her detachment went fije and six days without having opportunity to take down her hair. During one march, in keeping pace with the retreating red forces, the women were on the go 14 hours. 13 of which were without food or water. Women Did Patrol Dirty. The letter says: "At 11 o'clock at night we were ordered to be in readiness. Our detachment, all -women, at this time, had been ordered out for patrol duty. Our pack consists of a coat, rifle, ammunition and other articles, in all weighing 60 pounds. After four hours of marching, and when I felt I couldn't go a step further, we received orders to return to our former post, several miles away. I scarcely remember how I reached our destination, I was so tired. I dropped - onto a pile of straw and slept for an hour. "When I was awakened I was informed that my detachment had gone away without me, to take part in a movement to surround a force of bo!sheviki hidden in a clump of woods. After six miles of good roadway, I encountered sand which made walking so difficult that my feet pained me at every step. I was covered with dust, and hadn't had a drink of water for hours. After walking fifteen miles I reached my comrades, who were resting under trees, in the shade, from a hot sun. A pleasant boy brought a bucket of plums, but we privates only got a look at them; the plums all ' went to the officers, who were women, too. And then the march started again, through a forest. March 14 Hours. "Now and then, as we advanced, I saw some of the women faint, and I heard others crying 'mercy' and I thought I heard curses, which must have come from the men on our right This march was continued 14 hours. For 13 hours we had neither food nor water. When we reached a series of trenches, we were promised something hot to eat. But the food never came, and then the fighting began. Oh, how I longed for a drink longed for sleep away from the roar of battle. But above everything there was a feelins of satisfaction a feeling of undreamed of happiness despite the suffering from hunger, from lack of water and misery due to cold at night and heat during the day, when I thought and was thrilled as we fought, that I, a woman, was a soldier of Poland."

COLUMBUS Death was narrowly escaped by Mrs. Oliver King and three small children when a fire of mysterious origin started in their home. Carpets and rugs in two of the rooms were soaked with coal oil, according to firemen who fought the fire. The home was ransacked and robbed of $106 in silver that was found in the yard at the rear of the home. Fire Chief Kailor has ordered an investigation. Residents near the creek are greatly concerned and are going to notify the state fish and game department of the condition.. It is not known whether decaying leaves which have fallen into the stream, or a pollution of some form is the cause. The water is apparently in a stagnant conditio.

Hatchery to Propagate Only Small Month Bass (By Associated Press) INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 25. The Bass Lake state fish hatchery will be devoted exclusively to propagation of small mouth bass for stocking streams and lakes in Indiana, it is announced by the state department of conservation. There has been a persistent demand this season for, small mouth bass. The Bass Lake hatchery is

ideal for the propagation of this species owing to springs which feed the ponds. Only four ponds have been operated at the hatchery during the present season but George Berg, superintendent of hatcheries, is now making additions so that seven ponds will be operated next season. An appeal has been made to citizens of the state to catch adult fish for the hatcheries. It is hoped to more than double the fish crop at Bass Lake next season. Fish taken at this season of the year become acclimated and make better breeders, according to the hatchery experts. State wardens are now engaged in detecting fishermen who take bass under ten inches in length. Officials of the state conservation department characterize the taking of small fish as "unsportsmanlike," as well as unlawful. The taking of fish before they are large enough to produce greatly diminishes the supply and works against every effort being honestly

made to make Indiana waters noted for their abundant acquatic life, the officials point out.
