CEMENT MATERIALS
ABOUND IN INDIANA 7 GEOLOGIST DECLARES f I (By Associated Press) . INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 15. Indiana is rich in raw materials for the manufacture of cement but it is sometimes difficult to obtain the essential combination of factors for plant location according to a report made by Dr. W. N. Logan state geologist, to the state department of conservation. The demand for cement at he present time exceeds the supply, says Dr. Logan. Renewal of construction work ifceld In abeyance during the war, expensive road building programs and 'transportation difficulties tor certain materials have each contributed to the increased demand. Raw materials for the manufacture
of cement in Indiana are aimosi unlimited and inexhaustable, according to Dr. Logan, but a plant location reo.uires an abundant water supply, ready access to transportation, high aluminous clays or shales and low magnesia limestones. Many Natural Resources. Numerous inquiries have been received recently by the state department of conservation regarding other natural resources in Indiana. Besides Information regarding cement materials requests have been for data concerning mineral paints, rock salt, fuller's earth, oil shales, coal, refractory sands, brick clays and kaolin.
Southern states are now iac ki w .producers of fuller's earth, which s used in clarifying oil and in fulling cloth Transportation difficultes render it desirable that the northern oil refineries find a supply of fuller s earth nearer their plants. Suitable quantities of fullers earth have not yet been fccated in Indiana, however. Dr Logan Relieves that it is not at all improbable that such supplies may be found within the non-glaciated area of southern Indiana.
