TOOTH BLEACHES.

It Is not difficult to keep the teeth looking white and well-cared for not nearly as difficult as some of my very young readers seem to think. One of the reasons why a groat

many people worry because their teeth , are not white is this very few know that milk white teeth are rare, and not specially desirable. Unfortunately very white teeth have been praised as being the most beautiful, and tha result seems to be that many women think that their own are not good because they are not blue-white. The truth is that slightly yellow or cream color teeth are stronger than the pure white sort. However, theie are many simple bleaches which will keep teeth from becoming too yellow, and at the same time make them stronger and more beautiful. There's a powdered pumice. This is abrasive, and will clean off much of the tartar that collects on the teeth, will not gain weight as fast as the one Powdered pumice should not be used too often perhaps once every month would bo enough. Bi-carbonate of soda is another good thing for the teeth, especially if you have a tendency toward acid mouth, or soft gums. A teaspoonful in a little warm water is all you need; the mouth can be rinsed out with it every day.

Salt is excellent for the teeth, but should not be used too often or too

much at a time. It may make tho

teeth ache for a minute if you use too

much, and if the teeth are eensitive. But It is wonderfully bleaching and cleansing. Salt water as a mouth wash and gargle Is excellent, and can be usel daily with only good effects.

dressing. Yes, a teaspoonful with each meal would help you gain iu weight, but I can not say how long it will take you to put on another ten

pounds. It depends entirely upon your

nower of assimilation. There are some

people who can gain a pound a day.

whil others could not do that In a

week. The nervously active person wil lnot gain weight as fast as the one who is phlegmatic. Do not confine yourself entirely to tho oil, as you might lose your appetite for it; and if you take it plain, sprinkle some salt in it. Drink plenty

of milk also, or you may take some of the milk made into hot chocolate as the weather grows colder. If you do not vary your diet, you assimilation will be impaired, even if your appetite does not show it. Sisters The girl who is five feet tall should weigh 113 pounds, and the girl who is a half inch taller should weigh a few pounds more.

SCARLET FEVER.

Within a week sometimes within two or three days after your child has been exposed to scarlet fever, if she is a susceptible person, you will hear her complain of sore throat. Vomiting and fever accompany the sore throat, and from 12 to 36 hours later a bright red rash will appear on her neck and chest. This spreads rapidly over the whole body, with the exception of the face which usually escapes. By this time you will be pretty sure you have a well developed case of scarlet fever on your hands, and the complications and after-effects of this disease may be so serious that no mother should attempt to handle a case alone. Deafness may result from scarlet fever, and it is not an unknown thing to have a child die suddenly from kidney disease after it was thought he had entirely recovered from an attack of scarlet fever. If your child has the above symp

toms send for a competent physician who will guide you through the pitfalls of this disease. He will tell you that it is contagious from the very beginning until all discharges from the

r.ose, throat and ears have ceased, us- j

ually a period of about five weeks. Peeling Process.

Desquamation, or peeling, generally begins about the eighth day, but the flakes and scales are not now looked upon as likely to be contagious. The patient himself, and anything (clothing, toys, upholstery, etc.) which, have been contaminated by discharges from

his mucous membranes are the chief infecting agents. Hence, the importance of keeping the patient and anything which he has used from coming in contact with other children. As a rule, scarlet fever keeps a child out of school about six weeks, but this, of course, depends upon the cessation of all discharges from the nose, throat,

ears, and any glands which may have

Dronen aown in the course or the disease. A frequent means of spreading scarlet fever are the mild cases of those children who do not feel really ill, and complain of nothing but a mild sore throat. But these cases are just as contagious as severe ones, one just as apt to be followed by ear and kidney troubles. Unfortunately, too, a very severe case may be contracted from a very mild one, and the mother who sends her child to school with a sore throat runs the risk of causing some other child to suffer great harm and perhaps death. Keep your child at home when he has a sore throat.

Whatever You Do Don't Neglect Your Eyes, Says Dr. Lewis, Who Tells How to Strengthen Eyesight 50 in One Week's Time in Many Instances

A Free Prescription Filled and Vm

Philadelphia. Pa. Do you wear glasses? Are you a victim of eye strain or other eye weaknesses? It so, you will be glad to know that according- to Dr. Lewis there is real hope for you. He says neglect causes more eye troubles and poor sight than any other one thing. Many whose eyes were failing say they had their eyes restored through the principle of this wonderful free prescription. One man says after trying it: "I was almost blind; could not see t3 read at all. Now I can read everything without any glasses and my eyes do not water any more. At night they would pain dreadfully; now they feel fine all the time. It was like a miracle to me." A lady who used it says: "The atmosphere seemed hazy with or without glasses, but after using this prescription for fifteen days everything seems clear. I can even read fine print without glasses." It is believed that thousands who wear glasses can now discard them in a reasonable time and multitudes more will be able to strengthen their eyes so. as

to be spared the trouble and expense of ever getting glasses. Eye troubles

of many descriptions may be wonderfully benefitted by following the simple rules. Here is the prescription: Go

to any active drug store and get a bottle of Bon-Opto tablets. Drop one BonOpto tablet in a fourth of a glass of water and allow to dissolve. With this liquid bathe the eyes two or four times daily. You should notice your eyes clear up perceptibly right from the start and inflammation will quickly disappear. If your eyes are bothering you. even a little, take steps to save them now before it is too late. Many hopelessly blind might have been saved if they had cared for their eyes in time. NOTE: Another prominent Physician to whom the above article was suhmitted said. "Bon-Opto is a very remarkable remedy. Its constituent ingredients are well known to eminent eye specialists and widely prescribed by them." The manufacturers guarantee It to strengthen the eyesight 50 per cent In one week's time In many instances or refund the money. It can be obtained from any good druggist, and Is one of the very few preparations I feel should be kept on hand for regular use in almost every family. It is sold in this city by all leading druggists.

Heart Problems

Dear Mrs. Thompson: I am 17 years old and go to high school. My parents do not approve of my keeping company with gentlemen friends, al though I have many who accompany me home when I go out of an evening. I am in love with two boys. One I like because he is jolly, and the othei because he is quiet. The former is the younger. Do you think it would be right to let them take me home from a show? PEROXIDE BLONDE. You should obey your parents and r.bide by their decision. It seems to me it would be better for a young man to call for you and take you to a show than for you to go alone and then be accompanied home by some one who did not take you. To go to a place alone or in the company of another young girl does not look right. It is an open invitation for a boy to take the girl home and gives the impression that she is of the class which "picks up" escorts and is not sought by them in her own home. Dear Mrs. Thompson: When coming home from any place with a gentle man for the first time, although I have met him before, should I ask hiri in or just thank him for his company? Is it his place to ask to come again, or mine, and what should I say when he leaves? Should a girl thank her friend every time she has ice cream at an ice cream parlor? ELEANOR. If it is early in the evening, invite the young man to come in, but if it is after ten o'clock, thank him for taking you home and ask him to come to see you. Ask him to come again and leave It to him to set the time. A girl should always thank her friend for ice cream.

"J Am The light" Sign Fires Hall of the World Sunday School Conclave TOKIO, Oct. 6 Fire Tuesday afternoon destroyed the big hall in which the world's Sunday school convention was to have held its first session tonight. It is said that there were no casualties. The fire, which resulted from defective electric wiring, started at 3:50 o'clock when the lights on the dome, bearing the inscription, "I Am the Light of the World," were turned on. The building which had been constructed of light material covered with stucco, was destroyed within a few minutes. A large number of delegates were inside the building when the correspondent left it two minutes before the flames started. The cry of "fire" was immediately raised by those inside the building and echoed by thousands of persons approaching the central railroad station, adjacent to the convention hall. Almost immediately the entire structure was wrapped in flames with people streaming from the exits. Within ten minutes the building had been leveled. So great was the heat that it would have been impossible to approach the building for work of rescue, if such work had been required. Some of the delegates who had been inside the hall, when questioned, said they did not know whether all those there when the fire started had made their escape.
