ELMER FAGKSON KILLS AMOS CARPENTER; JEALOUS OVER ATTENTION PAID TO WIFE
Amos Carpenter, 29, colored, a laborer, and. it is said, former prize fighter, was ebot and almost instantly killed Tuesday evening by Elmer E. FackBon, 29, colored, janitor of a church, while Carpenter and Mrs. Fackson were conversing close to a doorway at 1021 Main street. Three bullets, fired at close range, entered Carpenter's bead and breast. A few minutes after the shooting, Fackson while walking on South Eleventh street, forcing his wife to accompany him, was taken into custody when Sargeant Coleman leaped upon him from a rapidly driven police automobile. Coleman disarmed Fackson without any difficulty. FackBon is being held without bail and will be bound over to the grand Jury, which is to meet within a few days, on a murder charge. Mrs. Fackson is being held as a material witness. - Few Hear Shots. The shooting took place while crowds were entering and leaving two theaters, both within a few feet of where the crime was committed. Very few people heard the revolver shots, probably because the shots were fired after the two men had entered the doorway. " Before the murderer had reached the corner of Eleventh and Main streets, dragging his wife with him, Joseph Walterman, an undertaker, who had heard the revolver reports while standing in the doorway of his establishment, hurried to a telephone and notified police headqarters of the shooting. Sergeant Coleman and Officer Kendall responded to the call immediately in a police machine. Hundreds of people quickly assembled at the scene of the shooting. Find "Knucks" Sergeant Coleman stated Wednesday that after Carpenter's body had been taken to an undertaking establishment a heavy pair of "knucks" was found in one of his pockets. The police say that Carpenter had been attentive to Mrs. Fackson for some time and that Fackson was jealous of him. After his arrest Fackson said, according to the police, that CarRheumatism

penter had told him recently that he intended to "have" MrB. Fackson and
he advised Fackson to secure a divorce. Fackson said Carpenter told him that unless he took this action he (Carpenter) would get him. Fackson said he took this threat seriously and armed himself. He raid he worker at the church a short time Tuesday evening and then went to meet his wife. He said that when he found her talking with Carpenter he opened fire on him. The Facksons have two children, aged 8 and 6 years.
BUSINES8-LIKE WOMAN MULCHES P0CKET8 OF SAILOR (By Assoctated Press) BORDEAUX, Sept. 29 Yves Borthon sauntered off the good ship Laverdiere where he presides over the destinies of the galley, with 1,900 francs in bis pocket and a great longing in his heart for a "sailor's good time." "Hands up," was the shout of a feminine voice that greeted him as he turned into a waterfront street from the docks. "This is a good Joke," said Yves, as he wheeled about to look into the muzzle of a business-like revolver, held by a steady feminine hand. "This is indeed a good Joke, let me kiss you." "Bing!" spat the business-like revolver and Yves felt a stinging pain in the left shoulder. When he awoke, the 1,900 francs had gone and so had the business-like woman. It was just getting dusk. Yves went to the police station first, then returned to the good ship Laverdiere.

Old Age Deferred BY DR. LEE H. SMITH. Business men who must speed up the works and make business boom during these days after the war must recognize the necessity of keeping fit. When mind is befogged, when you have dull headaches or feel logy, when not "up to 6nuff," keep the bowels free with a mild laxative. In the morning take a tepid sponge bath (cold water may be used if it does not chill), follow with a brisk rub down; a sufficient "setting up" exercise in good air until you are in a warm glow. Have you tried it lately? Don't let the poisons accumulate in the intestines either, but try a dose of castor oil the first thing on arising, or a pleasant laxative occasionally, such as one made up of May-apple, aloin and jalap, rolled into a tiny sugar-coated pill, and sold in every drug store as Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets. Then a cup of hot water before breakfast, and you'll feel better than a king! If you continue in life thus, you can pass a Life Insurance examination at sixty. If you wish to prevent old age coming on too soon, or if you want to increase your chances for a long life, you should drink plenty of soft (rain) or distilled water daily between meals. Then procure at the drug store Dr. Pierce's Anuric (anti-uric-acid). This1 "Ahuric" drives the uric acid out and relieves backache and rheumatism, as well as kidney trouble. Anuric dissolves uric acid. Try it nowl
