Bessie K. The condition of your skin Indicates a sluggish digestion. You should eat less of starchy and greasy foods; also, drink a great deal of water between meals, so that the kidneys will relieve the skin. Turkish baths help often to refine the skin, but you can improve it yourself if you watch your diet and be sure to close the pores after your hot baths, by being generous with your cold shower. Sea salt in the bath will help also. Pearl In this season of fresh vegetables, it is well to take advantage of the natural bleaches right at hand. Cucumber Juice or tomatoes rubbed into the skin will bleach as well as any harmless cosmetic. If you use the tomato, follow it with a cold cream, as the acid cuts the natural oils in the skin. For your hands, keep a mixture of glycerine and rose water, equal parts, and rub It in well after the kitchen work is completed. Harold B. Red vaseline or crude oil rubbed into the scalp will help your condition. It should be done twice a week, using the finger tips on the scalp and massaging until the oils are absorbed. If you would care for fuller instruction on the care of the hair, send an addressed, stamped envelope. Constant Reader Part the hair on one side and fluff it up well over the top of the head; then bring all of it down, but keep it fluffed out, so it will be soft ajl around the face, and drop it well over the ears. You can take the whole mass then into a coil well up over the back of the head. You will see that this heightening over the top of head and the drop over the ears will give an appearance of length to the face, which will be very becoming when the face is inclined to be too stout or short. You can use any of the 6hades of blue, pink, deep cardinal, green or browns; in fact, there are few colors you could not wear, if your complexion Is clear. Curly Locks Rub cold cream into your nails each night to correct that tendency to brittleness. If you are handling vegetables or fruit with acid in them, protect the tips of fingers with rubber gloves, or rub the nails well with cream after the work is completed.Tomatoes will make the nails brittle, if there is any such tendency. R. J. You should weigh about 120 and your friend, E. H.. should weigh from 110 to 115 pounds. M. Leoria L. Crude oil, heated and massaged into the scalp with the finger tips will help your condition. You can do this the nteht before your regular shampoo, but be sure to cover the head to save the bed linen. The blackheads can be cleared from the akin if you either steam the face or use hot water cloths on the affected parts, after which apply a cleansing cream. Remove this with a cloth and wash as usual, after which close the pores with ice or cold water in which there are a few drops of benzoin. To "Mrs. Anxious" and "Home Builder." Will you both please send
self-addressed and stamped euveiopes for replies to your questions, which are too long to be Included in this column. An Anxious Reader You need to consult a doctor. Nervousness that would cause the whole body to shake as you describe it, shows that you are very much In need of a good building up, which should be under the supervision of your physician. All inquiries addressed to Miss Forbes in care of the "Beauty Chats" department will be answered In these columns in their turn. This requires considerable time, however, owing- to the great number received. So, if a personal or quicker reply is desired, a stamped and self-addressed envelope must be enclosed with the question. What's In a Name (Copyright)
ZOE. One of the oldest feminine names in the history of etymology is Zoe, signifying "life". It had frequent usage In Biblical records and was a favorite in ancient Greece, but its vogue diminished during the Middle Ages and it has been revived only comparatively recently. It is regarded as being as old as Eve, and is generally translated as "the mother of all living". The Alexandrian Jews first used the name of Zoe when they translated the history of the first woman and gave her the title of Zoe instead of Eve, in order to show the connection of the name with the prophecy. It contin ued in vogue among the Greeks and came Into fashion again in England with the revival of classic names. Just why it has become a favorite in recent years Is impossible to determine, unless its significance and the ancient associations, as well as the shortness and undoubtedly pleasing sound may be taken as sufficient reason. Jade, the Chinese emblem of life, is a fitting talisman for Zoe. It is believed to bring her health, wealth and happiness. Particularly will it protect her from contagion and death by accident. Tuesday is her lucky day and 3 her lucky number.

"Hubert K.": It is not right to make yourself "stay put" in a place where your interest is wholly lacking. You may never make as much money as you would have if you had followed in the footsteps of your father, but life holds more than money. You will find happiness in following your own bent and by doing your work with such excellency that you become an expert. I prefer to discuss the matter of religion personally. If you care to have a letter general delivery or at your boarding place, let me know. Dear Mrs. Thompson: One day I was in a restaurant eating and I had my lap full of bundles. A woman of about sixty whom I know came over 10 the table where I was sitting with a friend. My friend rose and stood up all the time the older woman was talking, which was about ten minutes. I did not stand up. Since that I have worded because I feel that I was rude and should have risen. Please tell me if I was rude? LUCY. The older woman should not have interrupted your meal by stopping to talk. It would have been all right for her to pass a few words with you, but to stand and talk was thoughtless. It would have been better if you had asked her to pardon you for not. rising since your lap was full of bundles. I' is not a matter to worry about, however, since the older woman made the more grave error of the two. Dear Mrs. Thompson: I am fourteen years of age and a freshman in high school. I have dark brown curly hair and am dark eomplexloned Should I comb mv hair with ear puffs and wear a ribbon? Or should I wear it in curls? Is it considered very vulgar for a girl to chew gum while in company? Do you think it all right for girls to go to baseball games and root? Some people think it very unladylike, but I can see no harm in it. SUE. Your hair would look prettier in curls. Personally I abominate ear puffs. It is very vulgar to chew gum while ir. company. No person of refinement does it. Yes, I think it is all right for girls to go to a baseball game and root. Thev should not, however, be boisterous "and make a spectacle of themselves.
The November art exhibit will include work by a group of Richmond painters. Late summer and early au
tumn is the busiest season for local artists. Several who. have been able to do little this summer are sketching now. Mr. Bundy has found a new place in the hills between Centerville and
! Abington and has moved his studio
there temporarily. He expects to be there the rest of the fall and possibly all winter. Mr. Baker expects to go sketching soon and probably will spend some time with Mr. Bundy. Elwood Morris also expects to , start sketching soon. Mrs. Maude Kaufman Eggemeyer, who has been busy moving and arranging her new studio on Morton Lake, intends to start painting this week. She will make several child portraits this winter. Francis Brown Is another who probably will do some work at the scene of Mr. Bundy's new discovery. Mr. Brown was awarded three prizes for pictures exhibited at the Indiana state fair, a first prize for a water color entitled "A Country Road," a first prize for a decoration in pastel and water color, and third prize for another decoration. Miss Blanche Wait, a new member of the Richmond colony, who has ex-
I bibited at the American Artists' ex
hibition, will have a portrait in the opening exhibit and a group for the November exhibit. E. W. Gregg has done several canvases this summer, and some of his work will be shown in November. Dr. Harlow Lindley saw Howard

The wrappy coats have it according to the verdict of the fashion designers. The conservative, belted models will be seen very little save for business and sport wear. Here is a very stunning style in a wrappy coat. It shows that new combination of brown and gray. The coat is brown velour with an unusual collar of gray squirrel fur which is very effective
NEGLECTED TEETH Due largely to the revelations of the X-Ray, supplemented by careful examination by physicians and bacteriologists, we now know that neglect of the teeth and mouth are responsible for a number of serious infectious diseases, whose origin, until recently, was very obscure. The more important, of these conditions are diseases of the heart and arteries, infections of the blood, and infectious diseases of the joints. All modern up-to-date dentists now make use of X-ray pictures whenever they suspect any trouble with the roots of the teeth. Not only the dentist, but the physician as well, has been astonished at what these pictures have revealed to him. Often they show that pus is present about the neck of the tooth, and that there are pockets extending down to
ward the roots which hold large quantities of putrid matter. The discharge j of poison and germs from these hid-
den abscesses at the roots of teeth and the consequent absorption from these and other local sources of Infection such as diseased tonsils, are often the real cause of som obscure ill-defined ailment which perhaps has baffled the attending physician for some time. Bad Teeth Cause. It Is not a matter of coincidence that in the Presbyterian Hospital In Chicago, out of 332 patients who were suffering from rheumatism and joint trouble, 89 per cent were found with chronic abscesses of the teeth, or that at the Cook County Hospital, Chicago, 76 per cent of the rheumatic cases were found chronic abscesses of the teeth. Certainly not all rheumatic or systemic diseases are due to pus around
the necks of the teeth, or from concealed abscesses at their roots, nor yet to infections of the tonsils. Yet
it Is strongly suspected that such mouth infections may often be the cause, or at least a contributing cause, of many diseases, such as tonsilitis. St Vitus' dance, certain forms of heart and kidney diseases, and obscure stomach ailments. Tartar Deposits. ., One of the commonest results of neglect of the teeth is an accumulation of tartar. The first sign of tartar Is a slight roughness, felt usually on the inside of the lower front teeth. This is caused by deposits from the saliva of a hard, chalky substance. The unclean condition of the mouth resulting from tartar deposits Is a common cause of "bad breath." Pyorrhoea. The deposit of tartar where the teeth . Join the gums Is a frequent cause, though not the only cause, of Rigg'e disease, or pyorrhoea. The gums become Irritated and infected by disease-producing germs, the tissues are broken down and pus forms. Unless the pyorrhoea sufferer is prompt in putting his case in the hands of a dentist the infection continues, rap'dly dissolving the soft bone surrounding the teeth, and destroying the attachment of the soft tissues of the gum

To do this, just get about four ounces of plain, common liquid arvon from any drug store (this is all you will need), apply it at night when retiring; use enough to moisten the scalp and rub it in gently with the finger tips. By morning, most if not all, of your dandruff will be gone, and three or four more applications will completely dissolve and entirely destroy every single sign and trace of it, no matter how much dandruff you may have.
